HS devs are lost at sea. All they have to do is release patches that excite the player base. Look at Valve and Dota for example. 25 changes (sometimes 100), nerfing, buffing, improving. Blizzard aint no way you think 3 changes in standard and none to wild is exciting. Buff the low winrate cards from the latest expansions! Hemet Foam Marksman from Whizbang could be such a cool card but it’s simply unplayable as is. Nerf cards that lead to consistent dominance like Treasure Distributor and Void Touched Attendant.
You can do it! If you want more money just release cosmetics that are actually affordable. Dota releases $3 hero skins all the damn time. Sell low cost emotes for fun! Sell board effects, burning rope effects, and name tag skins.
The only thing the HS team seems capable of is writing a whole article about a skin that took seven months to make and wearing it as a badge of honor, while a truly capable team would release something like that every month.
In part hearthstone players don’t really like hearthstone cosmetics.
We need to be able to recognize when something that work for most people don’t work for us.
The real issue with hearthstone monetization is a mix of how stupidity generous the game is with what players would pay for vs How stingy they are with cosmetics.
One thing that they should try is to not Sabotage other modes.
It is incredible the devs talent to make other modes feel miserable the second they talk about monetizing those modes.
And it isn’t about paying. It is about How what they create for you to pay Destroy your fun.
One example is the impact of the caverns of time set on the Twist format.
Give a discount on an old set ?
No.
Make one so broken that It even breaks wild and let It run rampant on Twist ?
Yes.
The cosmetics are underwhelming these days, as is the artwork.
I have dated tattoo artists that could draw far better than what I have seen lately.
As for the game? I think the team is completely out of ideas. They just phone it it now.
Anyhow, getting back on topic. The artwork lately is crap, and the cosmetics aren’t much better.
You cannot blame consumers for not purchasing products when the quality has declined.
The artwork has been childish for a long time, so long that it wouldn’t even be considered a recent issue.
It’s just goofy art with soft, circular edges meant to appeal to kids, which is odd considering that’s probably not the target audience.
For me personally, I would just say it’s unappealing.
My favorite card for years. Idk who drew it, but I love it. https://hearthstone.blizzard.com/en-us/cards/43419-frost-lich-jaina?class=mage&set=knights-of-the-frozen-throne&sort=manaCost%3Aasc%2Cname%3Aasc%2Cclasses%3Aasc%2CgroupByClass%3Aasc%2CgroupByClass%3Aasc
I agree, Frost Lich Jaina is a beautiful piece of artwork.
While I was looking at the Frozen Throne expansion, I glanced at Coldwraith, and it struck me that artwork like that would never make it into today’s game. It actually looks like skeleton, not a Disney-style skeleton with soft, rounded edges meant to look specifically goofy.
Well, I’ve expressed my feelings about Blizzard trying to appease a backward country, but I won’t repeat myself since people love to throw around the racist card here.
Can you believe it?
Supporting women’s freedom is now considered racist. We’ve really come full circle.
