How to position in Battleground?

I’m struggling to position my minions outside of common sense situations (i.e. arranging taunt to avoid cleave, putting N’zoth on the far left…).

So here are some of my questions (I apology in advance if any of them sounds stupid, I’m still learning the mode):

1/ How many taunts are ideal?

Can’t understand this one, some streamers like Asmodai only like to put one taunt but RDU often taunts his entire line-up.

2/ In a non-taunt, non-cleave situation, how do you arrange your minions?

Are you arranging them by attack power or by health? I often arrange them by attack power (the bigger hitter will stand on the left) but I saw some people put the biggest guy on the right to increase its survival rate.

3/ Do we know before enter a round that which player will attack first?

4/ Is there a tool to take picture of your opponent’s position and then show it to you later for review?

I use printscreen button but it’s to slow to looking for the right image in 20-30 seconds that the game gives me. I want a more automatic method.

Here are my personnal opinion about those questions.

Depens on what important minions you have to protect. For exemple, if you play beast with a ratpack and a mama bear, it can be a good idea to have more than one taunt to decrease the chances that the mama bear get killed before the ratpack. On the other hand, if you only have strong minion that don’t necessarelly need to die in a particular order, you can do whatever with taunts. You generally never want to put taunt on a cleave unit though, because you really don’t want it to die before it has a chance to attack.

Generally, left to right, from the best attack to the lowest attack, to increase the chances of killing ennemy taunts in one shot.

If you know the opponant have a divine shielded taunt, you may want to put a poor minion on the left (lightfang, brann, etc), to pop the shield before your high-attack minion attacks it.

If you have multiple deathrattle (usually when playing beast), it can be a bit more complicated. You want your buffing deathrattle (Goldrinn) to attack first, so you put in on the left. Your ratpack however you want to more on the right, so it doesn’t die while your board is almost full.

Also, in case you didn’t know, you can move minions freely when they are on the board. (Just saying because i know someone who didn’t know that even after playing many games)

From my experience, I’d say player with more minion attack first. If the amount of minion are the same, it’s chosen randomly. (not 100% sure about this one though)

Don’t know about that one.

There are no set rules, you need play it a lot.

  1. Depends on your composition and the amount of key minions. Got a Soul Juggler? 2 or more, or one beefy one early-mid game.

  2. Biggest attackers first (assuming you know your opponent has no divine shield-taunts); high value cards and deathrattles, like Rat Pack, last.

  3. Nope. It’s random.

  4. How is it slow, though? Takes me 2 seconds to copy-pasta or open the screen.
