How to not have "Ladder Anxiety"?

Nowadays i don’t have nearly as much as i used to, but i still suffer from it.
Funny enough, i just have it when I’m winning, not when I’m losing.

Well regardless if your winning or losing my best advice for you is to take time outs.

The age-old advice for laddering in games like this is stop caring about the result. Care about your play.

You will win games that you made mistakes in. You will lose games that you made no mistakes in (I know that’s not real, bear with me).

Doesn’t matter. Just focus on playing as close to perfectly as is humanly possible. Ladder rank will increase naturally.
Also picture your opponents in their underwear. Unless that gets weird.

I think that’s easier to do in games where the laddering system is supposed to put you in “your deserved rank”, instead of the objective being “Getting to the highest ranked”.
Take League, for instance: The objective of ranked is not for you to reach Challenger, but for you to eventually get stuck in a rank, with a stale MMR (Gaining the same amount of points as you lose), as this serves to give you balanced matches. HearthStone: Battlegrounds is also like this.

Normal HearthStone, however, has the objective of you getting to legend.

It isn’t about not have ladder anxiety but about deal with it.

People nowadays have that strange idea that they have to constraint or control their feelings when in reality what they have to do is use their emotions as fuel to go a little more.

There is no problem in having actual fun, there is no problem in feeling frustrated.

The problem is when you overthink about those feelings and don’t focus on the game.

Just accept those emotions and move on.

If anyone could control what they feel or don’t feel then we wouldn’t need a game to have fun in first place.

Easiest way for me to get over ladder anxiety was to play Ranked. All the time. Quests? Play Ranked. Learning new decks? Ranked. Memeing with a random deck for funsies? Ranked. Eventually the game normalizes and wins and losses don’t feel any more special than they did in Casual.

That being said:

I don’t think I agree with this. Yes, an individual player’s goal can be to get to Legend, and the Ranked system isn’t built to discourage this, but it still takes time and effort to get there, particularly the first time.

Absolutely perfect tip. If you Just focus on getting better and analyzing plays, your rank Will grow by itself.

That Said: always picture your opponent as a grisly bear trying to make plays with his clumsy giant paws and roaring in anger/happiness at every little thing. Always works, never gets weird.

Once you break your own(old) barrier, it will be replaced by a new barrier.

Reflect back and you will see what I meant.

Me while queing in ladder:

priest: hell no, I am out
warlock: it’s free real estate
paladin: 1 drop into hand of hadal = concede
druid: turn 1 full board = concede

In this way I can have more fun.
At the end of the day, I will still be at gold 10, but that’s better than having a 10x stars multiplier, so it’s a double victory for me

Just keep in mind that every time you lose we’re all laughing at you. Also a puppy dies.

If you don’t hit legend, your life will cease to have meaning. Your wife will leave you for that face hunter you keep losing to.

Eventually this game WILL grind you into dust as you reach futilely for a rank that was never truly within your grasp to begin with.

So keep on pushing. Take every loss personally. Every time you lose, give in to your rage and break something valuable. Scream at your friends and family.

This is the question you need to ask yourself:

Who set this as an objective?

The main objective is to have fun and climb as high as you want/can. Legend is certainly not an objective.

You set your own goals and objectives in any game, not some random braindead forum elitist.

It goes away for me after I hit that rank several times. Also, don’t forget to have fun. This is your hobby. If pursuing legend is not fun, just play the game as if it’s casual.

I have a lot of ladder anxiety too. I’m stuck at diamond right now and only logging in to do quests because losing is too stressful otherwise. I think I’m waiting for the next mini set to shake things up again.

I have the same issue as some people. I get ladder anxiety when I win a lot. When I lose I don’t care. If I have a big winning streak, I stop playing ranked for weeks sometimes. It sounds crazy, but no idea what to do. I thought after hitting legend it would stop, but nope. Still the same old anxiety lol.

What works for me is doing something else between turns. For example, during my opponent’s turn I watch a movie, check social media or the news. That way I don’t get overly invested in the result of the match and it’s also useful against opponents who rope on purpose or emote a lot (I squelch them, though).

which rank gives the best monthly chest?
and ladder anxiety, it may exist at your first season but after 7 years… (84 standard seasons and 60 wild seasons=144chances to be legend)

  1. Play a deck that you like, it doesn’t necessarily have to be the S tier deck of the current on-going meta.

  2. Just play. The more you play the more it’ll ease. Until you’re at Diamond 1, 3 stars.

This is the most evidence based advice you’ll find. Consistent exposure to that which triggers anxiety over time will reduce the anxiety triggered. This is known in psychology as exposure therapy, and as someone that suffers from very diagnosable general and social anxiety, I can attest that it definitely works. And I can confirm it (repeat exposure) does work in regard to ladder.
