Believe it or not there are a lot of players that care about how they win and not just winning. I learned sonya rogue for a day and played both versions of it. It is good when ya learn how to pilot it, like sometimes ya when without the griftah combo cause you can create crazy stuff with mixologist and tidepool and sonya and breakdance, shadowsteps and then di it again the next turn
But the thing is at least for me as a rogue player is that i like winning so much more with a burgle package. Or some board based tempo package
Om a side note i added neophyte, stomper, endorcer to my exca rogue and have anove 50 percent winrate in dumpster legend with it now, like i started climbing!
After watchi g the masters tour id like to note that Tidepool pupil is used and abused in basically every deck in the tournament besides handbuff palidan.
Just thought it was noteworthy considering how many people were calling for sonya nerfs. XD
Sonya Rogue is a historically unique deck that we have not encountered in years. This is a deck that completely blows up all internal skill metrics in our possession. To give you an idea of how skill-intensive it is, if we apply its diamond matchups to the top legend field, its win rate would be ~39.5%. Instead, its win rate is ~51.5%. It gains a ~12% win rate in the average matchup at higher levels of play, which is completely absurd and nearly unprecedented. Unless you’re at the upper echelon of ladder, you should have no clue how to play it well. It is Tier 4 at legend. It is worse than Lynessa Paladin at lower Diamond ranks. This is the reincarnation of Garrote Rogue. There is no other example of a deck with a skill differential this high.
Now, I’m not going to lie: I’m not playing Ranked right now. But assuming that what VS has to say is an accurate portrayal of current events, then everything in the next paragraph reflects my feelings…
…Sonya Rogue is the opposite of a design failure. This is design perfection. If you want to nerf this, there is something drastically and fundamentally wrong with the way that you think about game design, and you should strongly consider shutting up about nerfing things. The designer of Sonya should be given a Blizzard internal design award and a raise. Better yet, a promotion.
The nerfing of Garrote Rogue was one of the worst injustices in Hearthstone balance patch history.
Its design limiting is what it is. I mean its just a spam a 1 cost damage spell… first it was deadly poison, then lamplighter, then griftah 6 damage. I mean sure theres skill in making things 1 cost and what do you do if you whiff the first griftah but interesting design it is not.
I dislike these mana cheating cards (it was more mana cheat back when excavate rogue was jackpoting its way through last expansion) and personal preference would be less of them.
