How Hard is it to Reach Rank 5, or Legend?

Hello everyone! I used to play hearthstone a SUPER long time ago, but now I decided to get back into it and try it out again. I just reached rank 5 for the first time yesterday! I was wondering though, how hard is it to actually do this, or reach legend? Like what percent of players reach rank 5/legend, does anyone know? Also, any tips on getting to legend? I think I’d like to try for it…

The latest stats we have are from gamepedia from before the ranking changes. I personally feel they are still accurate because I don’t think the changes made ranking easier.

Rank 5 and up is 2% of players.

Legend is 0.5%.

Rank 15 and up is 25%, not the halfway mark most people seem to think.

Reaching rank 5 isn’t really that hard at all if you’re an ok player because win streak exists, you can actually get to rank 5 with like a 45% winrate if you play enough. Rank 5 itself is a mix of weaker players playing meta decks and better players playing meme/experimental decks. Getting legend is significantly more difficult but it’s achievable if you know how to play your deck well enough. From 5 to legend with a 60% winrate (definitely achievable for a good player with a t1 deck) takes on average somewhere around 120 games. You don’t have any winstreaks to prop you up. It will take A LOT longer if you’re a 52-53% player.

My tip: Play tempo rogue, games are fast which speeds up the climb. Also it destroys almost everything except warrior. Watch some good streamers that play rogue (Rdu plays a lot of it) and learn from how they play. Best of luck!

Also just wanted to add that I think those percentages are kind of skewed, both because a lot of players will be mostly inactive and the data is from 2014. I feel like rank 5 is probably more like the top 6-7% of regularly active players.

Win streaks existed all the way to legend before. So you could theoretically highroll to legend, not just rank 5.

You can argue win streaks and rank floors could propel people to rank 5. But in spite of rank floors, I think people have a rank where they belong according to skill, and they generally stay there.

Even though the data is old, it hasn’t been updated by anyone. It seems like if it was significantly different, someone would have figured it out and said so by now. I will take 5 year old data over a feeling any day.

Ever since they changed the winning streak to stop as soon as you hit rank 5. It has gotten extremely hard to hit legendary rank. Dont let anyone tell you otherwise. Its straight wins and straight rng to do it. From rank 5 to legendary= 26 winning games in a row. Otherwise you want to win at least 4 of every 5 games. Yes 3 of every 5 is possible but that in itself is very time consuming. Theirs no skill factor once you hit rank 5.
I said that last sentence cause Im assuming once a person hits rank 5 they know all cards just by looking at them and what they do. This is a must to hit legendary. Yes rng is the main factor but the player does have to be competent in the hearthstone world. Theirs 0 room for mistakes like players would see in lower ranks.
Highest I ever got was rank 1 5 stars. then lost 13 in a row. Fracken awesome isnt it.
Well…Still not affiliated with copy kat crew. You beat me you beat my deck not a copy deck.
Enjoy and stay safe.

It’s not straight rng, wtf are you talking about. There’s a HUGE skill gap between players who stay at ranks 3-5 and the people who progress higher into legend, otherwise it wouldn’t be the same people there every month. A solid high legend player will have a 70-75% winrate with a t1 deck from 5-L if they climb mid-late season. If you’ve never gotten legend and think it’s because of rng and not subpar play then you need to re-evaluate how you’re approaching the game.

Edit: also 0 room for mistakes at ranks 5-1 is a literal joke, i make mistakes that I notice almost every game and I’m consistently top 100 legend. If you don’t think you’re making mistakes you just don’t realize what you’re doing wrong because it takes fundamental misunderstandings of how to play the game to not be able to reach legend.

I hear what your saying. I just dont agree about the rng thing. All day I play against copy decks all tier 1 same decks. Soon as they play a card I know exactly what deck there playing. Sorry man skill level and this game just doesnt mix. Skill level is not difficult to master here anylonger.
Druid plays both Embiggen 0 mana cards and str in numbers on R1. soon as round 5 or 6 hits they’ve got lethal on the board. You’re saying thats skill and not rng. And Yes that happens way to much from big druids. Then you have the treant deck. Theyll basically fill the board every round. Thats just one hero as an example. Speed decks in general right now on this patch just wrecked fun game time for players. Games over in 3 minutes as long as you dont bump into a fuse troll. Thats due to huge rng. If they want games to be this fast they should do B03 on matches.
I dont know what your perspective and viewpoint is especially on what decks you play and what you go against at that level. That I get. I have no idea if the decks you play against are that different. It used to be like that. Like every 5 ranks youd see a change in decks. But copy decks trump it all now. Anyway, I can only go by what Im playing against. But you cant just disregard the rng this game does. Almost 50% of my loses are from rng. Based off around 60+ games this month.

Last, On topic. I think I called it. Blizz just made huge changes to the ranking system. Win streaks back on. Now at least it wont be an all lottery win to get it. Winning 26 games in a row with 0 win streak bonus was crazy from rank 5 to Legend. Some could call it straight BS. Im happy theyll change it. Itll help since every opponent now is a copy tier 1 deck.
Enjoy all

It’s pretty easy.

Whoever wants to learn you can add me on Hearthstone too.

I just started playing constructed again a week ago after a year or so break and this was my experience;

Started off playing some old decks and homebrew decks (pogo rogue, cyclone mage, hand pally) and these carried me very quickly to 10. Passed rank 10 I believe the bad decks still worked but it would of taken me a bit longer.
I had to play through the expansion to build dragon hunter and I’m pretty sure it took me longer to do the expansion then to climb to 5 with hunter.

If you know your deck well and you know the mechanics of the game pretty well it is very easy to get to 5. Play on curve and don’t make obvious misplays all the time.

Then I got hardstuck around r3 / r4 for about 20 hours. Sometimes i would focus up and climb to 3 but then tilt back to 5 very quickly.
Because the winstreak stops at 5 there is a VERY obvious change in difficulty passed this point. There are plenty of mediocre players and memers at the rank floor but literally everyone from r4 to r1 is currently climbing up.

Every player you queue into at rank 1 had to win 20 more games then they lost to get there. Think about that. You are queuing into people with a 40-20 Win/Loss record or a 30/10 W/L since they were at 5.
They are all decent players, they are all playing good decks and they all tryharding. It takes a LONG time for a decent player to get from 5 to legend at 55% winrate and it is unlikely you can stay focused for that long if your peak performance is 55%.

After ~20 hours of going 50/50 against all the other try harders at rank 4 I gave up and went back to meme decks.
I spent a couple of weeks relearning the game and not thinking about my rank. I managed to get to r2 / r3 with meme decks. People at rank 2 are very surprised to queue into pogo rogue, I got added a lot and had 4 random spectators at one point.

When I went back to dragon hunter I realised straight away how badly I had been playing before. I got legend in about 3 days when I switched back to meta scum. You just gotta have a good sense of how your decks wins every match up, know the meta decks, play around their ‘on curve’ plays, know what to mulligan for and know when to trade or go face. I don’t play w/ deck tracker so idk my winrate but based on how long I took me I would speculate above 65% (75 games or so)

I think there’s about 5k legend players on EU right now. I lost a lot of games and it’s hard to drop to 5k.
How many active players are there on EU?
Idk. Let’s say it’s a million. Then top legend = top 0.5% of active players

I made up the numbers. But the data checks out. Pure science.

Ranked is going to be changed big time, which I hate. Used to stop at ranks 4/5 every month for my free epic. Now I don’t know. Having to climb all the way up every month is a lot more tiring than climbing 4 ranks

They said that it’s going to take a similar time to get back to your normal rank. IDK what rank 5 will be similar to, maybe diamond 10 or something, but your first win in bronze 10 will probably get you 8-9 stars.

When will win streaks stop? At which rank?

Every rank floor which is ever 5 ranks you will lose a bonus star or two. I don’t think winstreaks stop until you hit legend but i could be wrong

before the new patch just hit. Rank 5 to rank 1 full stars had 0 win streak bonus. Thats what the main debate was.
As of right now @diamond 3. Its weird or just buggy. I win 3 in a row I get 2 stars. On my 4th win just 1 star. But then the next day after new patch started I got 2 stars for my 3rd, 4th and 5th win streak. So Im actually unsure. Havent received another win streak since. But Ill let ya know if want.
