If you had a complete set, what would your basic framework be for any highlander deck? For me it’s
Zephyrus
Dragonqueen Alexstraza
Siamat
Ooze (or Stickyfingers, depending on the meta)
In wild, add
Reno
Zola the Gorgon
Laotheb
Leeroy (unless going for major control)
Zilliax
Ragnaros
The Lich King
Everything else is situational, though of course it includes any highlander cards from the deck’s class. Probably not Inkmaster Solia, though. Definitely not Krul the Unshackled.
I find a 10 mana card that fills your board with taunt + deathrattle summon more stuff a really good card; unless the opponent doesn’t have lethal or priest with silence, you will need 2-4 turns just to kill all this stuff.
I consider guldan even more broken because while the opponent is trying to get rid of your board in order to not die, you have an heropower that damages and heals at the same time.
With expired merchant, it’s all even more broken.
So, when I wanted to build a cool demons deck with Willow and I had to decide what legendary to craft to make it better, I crafted the prime because it is more fair (i know it sounds stupid, but it is what it is ).
Unless the meta will force me to play guldan, I won’t craft it.
I had the same thoughts about reno jackson (I used to have healbot), but since aggro could deal an unfair amount of damage, I decided to craft it (turn 6 reno jackson into concede happens, but they asked for it )
The thing is the card is pointless in this meta. You die by turn 8 or you won’t die vs aggro. Real control archetypes are only Big Priest, Controlish Warlock decks and Reno Mage. Now its’ good vs reno mage and in the mirror, but those are too few to jsutify running it. Against Rez Priest you only win anway if Tickatus hit somethign good.
N’Zoth is op in Mill Rogue, where they shuffle multiple copies of N’Zoth into their deck. In any other deck, it’s destroyed by a Kazakus 10-mana potion. Of course, combo and aggro games end way before N’Zoth is ever played.
I used to play N’Zoth in warrior and paladin in wild, but it was pretty meaningless.
in this meta yes guldan isn’t great. if an aggro player sees that board they go “oh broken” when any other control decks sees it " oh that’s their last resort I might be winning" and just plays one of the 187373 board clears available in this day and age
