With things having slowed down significantly and not having to worry about mid game OTK’s I have decided to do some testing.
I am currently working on a more value oriented Imbue hunter build. It is currently sitting at about 60% win rate. Not too bad. It very much plays for board position and whittles the opponent down. King Plush still comes down and murders people who are below 15hp. Malorne coming down on turn 6 is normally exceedingly hard for people to deal with. Magma Hounds followed by Sasquack the following turn can also be devastating.
Pros:
There is a ton of value.
It has a decent curve that becomes even better with high reductions from imbue.
It can still kind of OTK but more plays a bunch of mini combos.
Most people have no idea to play around it.
Cons:
If you do not see early imbues it gets very clunky.
Often times my hand is too big and hitting the wrong minion with an imbue feels meh.
Once you have lost board position it can be difficult to get it back.
Cards I am thinking of cutting because they have been pretty low impact.
Mythical Runebear
Cash Cow
Cards I am considering adding:
2nd Fetch!
Spirit Bond
Workhorse
Give it a try. See how it feels.
Beasts?
Class: Hunter
Format: Standard
Year of the Raptor
1x (1) Fetch!
2x (1) Tracking
2x (1) Wound Prey
2x (2) Bitterbloom Knight
2x (2) Exotic Houndmaster
2x (2) Parrot Sanctuary
2x (2) Patchwork Pals
2x (3) Petal Picker
2x (3) Sing-Along Buddy
2x (4) Flutterwing Guardian
2x (4) Mythical Runebear
2x (4) Umbraclaw
2x (5) Cash Cow
1x (7) Sasquawk
2x (8) Magma Hound
1x (8) Malorne the Waywatcher
1x (9) King Plush

Drop Cash Cow, the extra coins are kinda meh when you factor in the imbue cuts the cost of your beasts, sure it has taunt, but runebear is better for blocking as it can potentially give you 2 for 1
Same deck as the old but use the New Hunter beast and drop the copy minion for something useful on average.
Done.
You gonna need a little more time but It is a perfectly playable deck.

Is Plush still useful in the deck? I haven’t bothered to play the previous imbue hunter but Plush seems kind of a detrimental dead card now most of the time. You’re ‘wasting’ all the imbues into getting him cheaper but he doesn’t actually do anything unless your other cards managed to set up enough of a win.
I think maybe he should have at least had rush (not charge) as a baseline or the removal effect. Seems way too conditional now.
But eh, similar to Naralex, I’ll take overnerfed vs OP…
He still gets kills. It is not that hard to get people to 15. At least not yet.
Honestly I’d swap Plush for Goldrinn, but that’s my opinion
That reminds me, does Goldrinn affect magma hound ping damage? If so, that’s potentially powerful combo right there
Yes, Goldrinn does double the damage. Each 1 instance deals 2. I do not have it crafted right now, but I may consider it.
I removed the bears for 2x Raptor Herald and I like them much more. I just beat Protoss mage with a strong Sasquack into Magma Hound. As of now Plush is still doing work. If I decide to get invested enough I can try Goldrinn soon. The problem is that Goldrinn really doesn’t do much aside from helping Magma Hound when he is catching the imbues.
Edit - Cash Cows are 100% coming out. Will think on it for awhile on crafting Goldrinn. Took out another Protoss mage. Had a 20dmg Plush waiting in hand and killed them without it(they were at 15hp with a bunch of armor).
