Hearthstone Hand Flickering since Patch

The reason is scaling. This poster found it, I have the same issue. It was not like this pre-Patch.

The hand icon in Hearthstone flickers fading in and out very quickly - like a flickering effect.

It stops, if I press the mouse key and hold it down. It stops, if I hover over a menu item but begins again when I move away from the menu item.

I have reset the settings in the game, changed full screen back and forth, changed resolution. I have changed the settings on my display adapter.

Windows is up to date, Nvidia Geforce drivers are up to date.

I saw a report from April 2018 of the same thing, which is why I tried the above. This occurred after the latest patch update - but only on my desktop (my laptop works fine still) - so I don’t think it is the patch effecting JUST ME…but maybe knowing it started after the patch might help narrow down the issue.

The blue post I saw asked for a DxDiag file - so here one is…I didn’t post all of it because it was lines and lines of just numbers and I making a guess that that would not be of much use. If you need it, let me know and I can post it.

I could use a fix, as this I think is also causing huge lag…which then passes when I hold down the mouse button…

I have the same issues with the mouse flickering and lag as well. Only appeared since this patch.

I have the exact same issue. It is infuriating!!!
I am running a reasonably high end PC and this game seems to get worse every year with its performance. Constant disconnects, lag, but this mouse pointer issue really is the final straw.

I have flickering too, have Windows at scaling 150%, it’s been a while that I notice flickering in the game, certainly caused by the scaling, but that last patch made it so much worst. Sometimes the cursor disappear for a couple of seconds and drop the framerate unless I’m on a button or when I hold the click.

I also have a 1440 resolution and 150% scaling. So I have been having the curser flashing problem as well. Mine is fine in the main menu or card library. It only happens when I enter a game in any game mode. I also would like to add that in one game the end turn button also started to flash really fast and eventually disappeared into a bright pink splotch of color where the button used to be. Only happened in one game of battlegrounds though.

I have found some kind of temporary solution that solve flickering and framerate drops !

  • Find the exe file of Hearthstone in the install directory
  • Right click on it, open properties
  • go to compatibility
  • You will find a button in the settings part. “Change high DPI settings”
  • Check the check box about “High DPI scaling override” and select System or System (enhanced).

You can start Hearthstone again, the problem is now gone.
Hope it will be as efficient as it was for me ! :grinning:

EDIT : Thanks to Cahrin for the language and check box precisions

This worked for me, thanks. The setting in English is “Change high DPI settings” and I needed to set only the “High DPI scaling override” to System or System (enhanced).

Same here… 2060 Super and latest patch. Also see texture snapping and flickering playing wow. Never had it before. Hand flickers on the hero power, and like 2 other things in battlegrounds. I have an RTX card with shadows on in WOW. May be something where they are forcing people to buy 3 series RTX? Oh hey… make sure to force people to open up files in your game and copypasta random code to get the game to work!

Having Same issue here, but with some additional oddities. I tried the above and it didn’t change anything. I’m getting the cursor flicker and the game FPS drops when hearthstone is in the active window. When I click on my second monitor the game runs perfectly smooth at 144 fps. I have a 10900K and a Strix 3090…

I opened a ticket and was directed to post in the forums instead? Blizzard?

If i do this, i don’t have 3840 x 2160 anymore. I only have 2194 x 1234.

Still not fixed…

Having exactly the same problem.

Started for me with a January Nvidia driver update but the solution from HyperCube above fixed it for me, thx a lot!

same problem here! if i use the DPI override, i dont have 3840x2160 anymore…any tips?

Bombard Blizzard customer support with complaints. Until they fix it, there is nothing you can do.

A small fix for me was using windowed mode instead, 144 fps and no flickering but it pretty annoying to use.

go into graphics card settings, turn off freesync in the display setting
