Haven't played since 2015 - questions

Haven’t played since 2015 and wondering how hard is it to get back into the game? Obviously, I’m sure a ton has changed. Are there any beginner decks you can build to get started and what’s the best strategy to enhance your deck and get more cards (other than paying for it)? Thanks.

If you really haven’t played since 2015, you’ll receive a free deck when logging in.
Then there’s also the new Demonhunter class, which is quite strong.
You won’t need many cards to build a deck for Demonhunter, cause most of the cards are for free.

You get a free deck.

Be extremely judicious on which deck you choose.

The best are probably Paladin and Hunter. There’s been a ton of nerfs, and those 2 decks escaped the nerfs.

Strange question: if these decks are probably bad and not fresh in a month (I’m assuming), maybe it is worth to wait till the new expansion is out to see if they are going to change free decks with new legendaries?

It’s only 2 weeks, but I am not sure if deck recipes will be updated immediatly, nor if they will have new legendaries
Or if it’s even worth it to wait these much time without playing

If the game puts you in the “new player experience” it would be perfect, because you get the free deck when you are at bronze 10, so you can play now and redeem the deck later.
I also don’t know if the “new player experience” is an opportunity for only new accounts or also “coming back” players

According to Google it seems that at least four months of inactivity is required. So, he should be able to get a free deck.

Thanks for the info! Sounds like Paladin or Hunter. Is one particularly better if you only have cards from 5 years ago and not much dust?

I just returned and saw my account filled with over 12k dust and a bunch of free packs.
The first card I crafted, and you should, is Zayle’s–it’s a card that gives you free pre-made deck randomly every single game , with great winning rate and fun.

Was this not Whizzbang and has he not rotated out of Standard?

i can play it no problem.

The lapsed-player free deck is not a Whizbang deck, and yes, he has rotated.

you’re right. The card name is “Zayle’s evil deck”

To clarify, Zayle is another way of getting a Whizbang-like deck (though Zayle’s are significantly worse than Whizbang’s), but the lapsed-player deck is a normal deck, made of actual cards that are part of your collection.

Zayle is actually the WORST POSSIBLE CRAFT!

  1. you can get it by completing an adventure, which costs 2800 gold (if i remember correctly), no need to waste dust when for some gold you get it with also 15 packs and Solo content
  2. it will rotate to wild this april; this means that its archetype won’t change ( = no new cards)
  3. zayle’s deck are the worst deck I have ever seen: you can “easily” build better decks after you play for 1 year ( = 3 expansion)
  4. did I already say that zayle’s deck are trash?

If you really want a fancy card, whizbang it’s better than Zayle:

  1. new decks every time there is a new expansion, with new cards (even if it is already in wild)
  2. 10 different classes deck, with 2 decks each (I think?), so 20 decks instead of 5
  3. it’s whizbang the wonderful
  4. did I already say that zayle’s deck are trash?

I’m confused. Is Zayle in Paladin or Hunter?

Zayle is a card from an adventure that by itself will have you play one of the “E.V.I.L.” class decks, but the decks are garbage. You don’t choose the deck you play or the class, but you don’t need to own any cards to play it.

warrior and shaman are playable.

Go to Adventure mode and play every content that is free. Most of those give you a couple of packs

Yeah, but you can’t choose them, so in theory 60% of the time you will get one of the other 3

Are only 4 types warrior, shaman, rogue, and priest.

You are forgetting Warlock
