Has "Echo" been alterered?

I was playing Tess on Monster Hunt recently and came across the Whisperer. After my deep sigh of disgust on this auto win, I was shocked to see that the mechanics have changed.

Upon using a Zero cost Small Rock, the echoed spell came back costing 1. I even had Sticky Fingers, so the cost should have technically been Minus 1. I checked another 1 cost spell, Sinister Strike, and it also echoed as a 1 cost spell when it should have been 0. And yet, a 1 cost spell echoes at 1 cost, thus no change. So you’re penalized for using a 0 or less cost Echo.

Sorry for the ignorance of my question, but have all Echo cards across the game changed like this?

If not, this is the single laziest “fix” on a monster that I’ve ever seen. I mean, we all knew Whisperer needed to be fixed, but literally just changing the rules for one monster is horrible. The better fix would to have just made his HP “All YOUR spells have echo” rather than both players.

Speaking only about Monster Hunt, it’s amazing that Whisperer got this pathetic attempt at a fix and garnered attention, but Gnomenapper was left alone.

Because of some Wild format shenanigans Echo cards can only be reduced to 1 mana minimum.

Yeah, this affects all echo cards. It wasn’t done because of this boss (remember their attitude about being able to do OP things in solo runs is “go for it”), it was because of how broken things in Wild format were getting. It affecting this boss just happens to be a downside of the change, and would have been addressed earlier if it affected PvP matches.

Thank you for the clarification.

It’s to stop the infinite Snip-Snap combos in Wild, basically

No more infinite echo’s but you still might be able to cast infinite fireballs, in wild most likely.
