Gnoll nerf did nothing - Shaman still gets 10 drops

Renathal was nerfed due to its playrate, but also because so many players were very vocal about their discontent with Renathal. It is also possible that Renathal was nerfed, in part, because the direction the team wants to go (shorter matches) has changed.

(Question. Was Renathal introduced before the latest Game Director took over? This can be why there’s a possible change in design direction.)

I started playing in late 2019. The speed of standard matches has certainly increased since then. It’s common for matches to hardly last 5 - 6 turns these days. I do believe that the success of Marvel Snap (whose matches are short) can be a motivator for Team 5 to try and emulate that game in aiming for shorter match-time. A game wherein a player can whip out their phone and have a quick match in their down time. This hypothesis is not that farfetched.

It’s also worth mentioning that there is a big reason to break into the mobile market in a bigger way than Hearthstone has thusfar: money. Mobile games as a whole rakes in about twice as much as console or PC games.

As an aside, can anyone please link me the dev Tweets regarding the Transmutation bug? Thank you kindly in advance.

Maybe I’m not understanding. Wouldn’t an extra 10 health make it so what you do on turn 1 or early turns matter quite a bit? Btw, when I say fast games, I’m not implying Aggro. I’m talking about the subject of the thread essentially. Cards like Gnoll and the 1cost spell with a Discover a +1 cost minion. Can you take care of a 12/12 or 11/11 with taunt? No. Move on or accept the pain of a dragged out loss. Those kinds of interactions and the devs being okay with them are what I’m referring to when I say I believe the devs are pushing for faster games.

That’s not a game when you hope you drew the correct cards by turn 2.

Again, my fear, too. I wouldn’t be surprised if they introduced a new mode, but I’d be even less surprised if they just inserted “Speed” into the core game, which is something that’ll have me wakling out the door of HS and Blizzard at this point. (Unless Diablo IV is worth it, but I have no faith at this point)

I am going to wait a week or two after Diablo IV comes out so I can read the reviews. I’ve never really played Diablo, but it looks like it’ll be good. I worry about P2W monetization, though.

This exactly. Diablo Immortal (but IV). I heard all about their P2W model and if that comes to DIV, I won’t be a part of it.

Technically yes. But i taking a extra step here and assuming why it’s playrate got so high.

With that said this assumption is based only on personal experience and hearing other players.

Of course, I’m most definitely speculating based on the trends I see in the meta, my personal experience playing Hearthstone, and the anecdotes from other players. If I came off as stating my hypothesis as fact, I do apologize.

No, it’s the opposite. Greed decks can soak hits and then heal out of range with the higher costed cards in situations where they would have been dead without Renathal.

It also made decks like beast hunter able to completely go face and not care due to the extra life cushion.

There are almost no decks that were improved WR by the card, but it was literally everywhere on the lower rungs of the ladder. They never intended it to be an autoinclude card for anyone, but that’s what it was for many players.

Full disclosure, I think any card that alters the fundamental balance of starting health, cards in your deck, or available total mana should not exist, so I have found Renathal particularly gross.

I can understand what types of players would enjoy the card, but I would advocate for a separate mode for Renathal where everyone has more cards and health rather than only one player.

Are you saying like a shorter turn time mode or something?

Well…

It’s more complicated than that for the type of game that hearthstone is.

Many not like to admit but hearthstone peak is exactly when were discovering new stuff and dealing with cards like renathal.

Because we are basically exploring the digital card game genre to it’s limit.

It’s a cycle:

  1. We get something that challenges what we know about card games and many times not even blizzard really know what gonna happen.

  2. We explore the hell out of it/ get rekt by it.

  3. After we understand it . Some Minor tweaks are made based on public opnion and data.

The real issue it’s some recent cards that are just overpowered without offering anything significant to people experience.

Renathal is just a card who needed a minor tweak at the end of it’s cycle.

That’s a preference, not a fact. That’s your peak, maybe not someone elses. There are many people who let the meta settle and their peak is winning nearly every match with something broken. There are others who find the peak to countering what ever rules. There are lots of peak hearthstone because it’s an opinion.

This is a fact and can’t be disputed.

This is the whole problem, the amount of broken makes the game a casino of who gets their version of stupid first.

The problem is that it isn’t exactly an opnion but more of a unspoke consensus over most players.

Biggest proof of it being the tons of people returning every damm new expansion and quitting after the first month again.

Hearthstone general revenue literally functions around that concept.

Why that happens?
They want to see what did blizzard come up with THIS TIME.

This is wrong just tried it all i get is offered gnoll every time i use on a 10 cost minion. if its gnoll i just get offered another gnoll. Tried 2x in one turn all im ever offered is gnoll. This has completely destroyed the interaction with that card on 10 cost minions.

Unless im just getting unlucky…

This is what im talking about! this comunity needs to test stuff insted of just being hand fed everything!

Actually if you did read further you would see it only works with blazing transmutation due to it being a discover effect rather than an evolve card.

Yes but i did 2x in a turn multiple times and all it lets me select is another gnoll.

Ill test some more but iv played multiple games here.

They’ve fixed the bug.

What is the peak of hearthstone is an opinion.

It can be a popular opinion and still be an opinion.

If you say they make the most revenue when they release new content, that’s not an opinion. If you say the peak game experience is trying new stuff, that’s an opinion.

It could be language issue, but “peak” what? should be clarified to fix the misunderstanding.
