Getting real sick of people leaving instead of surrendering

I play a game and make some play that means i’m likely to win and instead of just surrendering they leave. so i have to just sit there and wait for the game to catch up to the fact that my opponent is a sore loser and decided to give me one last middlefinger. which can take so long i’ve won normally in that time sometimes. such poor sportsmanship should be reportable when the report feature comes out so that people stop doing this.

So what you’re telling me is that if your opponent’s cell phone dies you want to call the fun police on them and put them in Hearthstone jail

There is a special place in Hell for people who does that. :triumph:

you are disingenuous at best but ill humor you. a system that is well designed will not punish single offenses but instead deliberate repeat offenders. if you design a system where one or two reports are all it takes to get someone punished then you have designed a bad system.

regardless of what i meant you jumping into the ring and accusing me of meaning something I am very clearly not insinuating is a strawman argument and you should be ashamed of it.

So now you’re telling me that if your opponent leaves you won’t report them?

Have you considered the possibility of a disconnect?

Or maybe the pot on the stove boiled over and your opponent had to race to the kitchen to adjust the heat?

Or maybe the dog started pooping on the floor and your opponent had to get it outside quickly?

Or maybe the Amazon driver showed up with those rhinestoned slippers your opponent was waiting for and he had to get the box opened immediately because -squee!!- new slippers?

Or maybe your opponent just got annoyed after a 4th straight loss and chucked his phone across the room and walked outside to cool off?

Or maybe your opponent got a phone call from his kid who he hadn’t spoken to in a long time so he took the call right away?

None of these possibilities have anything to do with you. You may not like those reasons, and that’s fine, but they certainly don’t revolve around you (and certainly aren’t someone giving you a figurative middle finger).

Hmm… it takes two turns (less really) to identify that “your opponent left”. That’s a maximum of 150 seconds. And while it is possible to win a match in under 2.5 minutes, I really don’t think it’s all that long to wait. Be patient. Go grab a juicebox from the fridge and by the time you get back, it’ll probably be over.

I guess we’ll see… but I doubt there will be a specific option for reporting that “your opponent left.” I’m guessing we’ll have: Inappropriate Name, Inappropriate Chat, and Inappropriate Gameplay (which could mean almost anything including Cheating, Botting, Roping, Emoting, Leaving, Disconnecting, etc.) Of course, some of those things may not actually be actionable, but you can certainly click the report button and see what happens.

you are very clearly ignoring the deliberate nature of the action i mentioned in my initial post where they leave immediately after some game winning move to, very obviously, shaft the victor of the game in lieu of being able to win themselves. this is a clear, deliberate action that is difficult to mistake. it happens far too frequently to be some irl issue interfering with their ability to complete the match. im sure you already are aware of exactly what i meant and decided to distort the meaning of my post anyways so i wont engage your nonsense again.

I 100% do this everytime on turn 1 when a quest priest plays their quest card… just to waste their time like they are trying to do to me… This post lets me know that its working… thank you

i did, the first 10 times. its been a few dozen and i have not played that much recently. the humor is stale and now its just annoying.

You are assuming you know your opponent’s situation.

It certainly could be what you are suggesting. Maybe even likely. But you can’t be certain.

Waiting 2 minutes is being “shafted?” Really? I don’t think so. Losing a match due to being force disconnected by the Nellie bug is being shafted. You simply need to be just a tiny bit more patient.

Probably. But not always.

Yes. I intentionally selected some pretty absurd situations. Because your complaint is petty and, in my opinion, says more about your impatience than it does about your opponent.

But like I said, go ahead and report it. I highly doubt there will be any impact on the opponent, but maybe it’ll generate a change in the system.

As a Quest Priest player, I should let you know that we enter the games expecting a long match if we are able to earn the win. If the match is only 2-3 minutes, it’s most assuredly a loss to a Murloc deck (or some other hyper aggro deck), so when the match is only 2-3 minutes and we get the win, it’s quite the pleasant outcome.

So you’re saying that over 36 times (dozen=12;few=3 or more) you’ve encountered an opponent who simply closed the app making you wait for “your opponent left?” I’ve been playing HS for about 6 years and in all that time maybe I’ve encountered that situation 20 times… in 6 years.

This reminds me of David Foster Wallace’s “This is Water.” If you haven’t heard it, it’s worth listening to.

Sorry, your avatar is a Warlock, therefore I can only assume you probably deserved whatever time they make you waste for wasting that much and more with everyone else, on a daily basis. Also “make some play that means i’m likely to win” just reeks of some last second Warlock disaster so again, you deserve it.

I don’t mean to say you, personally, deserve to be disrespected. Just don’t underestimate the level of absolute rage that virtually every Warlock deck causes.

OK Karen. I understand you want to report everyone…

How about a better solution?

When the person actively pressed “Quit” it had the same in game effect as “Concede” instead of having it appear that the person Disconnected.
