Games do not seem as fun

I swear half of my matchups are one sided and just not fun to play. I cant seem to remember the last game where I actually enjoyed the process and not just the result. Am I the only person who has this perception? Or do people enjoy lopsided wins and losses? It just seems like my matches are way too polarized. I t would be nice if more of the games were close and engaging. It just feels like its always a blowout win or loss. Why do I seem to think this game always has too be about extremes?

Between that and not being able to strategize hardly at all. I cant play around removal because decks are managing to reproduce the same removal spells like 4 or 5 times? I just had a match against a Warlock who played 5 cascading disaster spells? How is that fun?

This question presumes the premise is correct. However, it isn’t true that games are always lopsided. Can you tell me, which games are you finding the most lopsided right now? And what deck(s) are you using?

(Note my tone here shouldn’t be taken as anything but friendly. I’m trying sincerely to understand.)

Warlock matchups seem the worst for me. That and Shaman matchups and those seem to be 80% of what I am seeing unless I change decks. I like my Paladin decks so that is what I play. If I switch to my Warrior deck then I will get mostly Paladin and Druid decks it seems.

If you have the cards, I suggest you try and play Buff Paladin. This deck has a positive win-rate against warlocks, actually. Warlocks have plenty of removal, but, it’s small removal and so they have difficulty removing big minions – especially waves of them.

Constructed has become a race to some blowout turn. It’s become much less about incremental value advantage throughout the game. I’m at the point where playing standard feels more frustrating than fun.

Well, yes. As has exploded on Twitter with the tournament looming is that OTK decks are out of control. OTK decks aim for a blowout turn – that’s their job. The problem lies in these decks having become incredibly efficient at both removing/surviving threats on board while acquiring their combo pieces quickly. The 21st should, hopefully, bring some change to this in the form of these decks being made less viable in slowing them or outright killing some of them (looking at you, OwlTK).

It’s not just OTK decks. All the best decks violate classic hearthstone mana in extreme ways. 0 mana giants, 0 mana recurring buffs, 1 mana replicating minions, 0 mana 4/5 divine shield taunts, 0 mana 4/5 rush minions, etc.

Healing is more extreme, multiplicative effects are more common, card draw is cheaper and more available, mana reduction is more easily achieved. The game has been power creeped into a game of power turns instead of value trades and chip damage.

Actually classic hearthstone has a decent amount of mana cheating and cards that Just explode in tempo.

What is happened is basically 2 things:

  1. People are literally asking for the most nonsensical defense tools as possible and even praising devs when said tools are ridiculous overpowered.

Remember zilliax?

They also hate direct damage basically asking to weak every direct damage tool possible.

  1. The whole witch hunting against RNG effects is making games extra linear.

RNG is the price of less linear games.

If you don’t like RNG you have to shut up and enjoy your linear matches.

You not get better game quality than that without It. It’s Just the nature of the beast.

So…
What happens when you have stupidly linear games with overtuned defensive tools?

People gonna go for those “deus ex Machina” ways of winning.

Basically smashing everything in one shot because they know If they don’t the opponent gonna heal back to 30 like nothing happened.

It’s fun for your opponent. It’s fun for Blizzard. It’s also fun for the FBI agent who watches you 24 hours every day and questions your internet history.

Weird why does changing your deck change the opponents you will face?

The games that I lose are incredibly lopsided!

Seems like rigged. :japanese_goblin:

VictoriousDN is right, hs at the moment is just a race to get to your power turn, either killing your opponent outright with an OTK or generating a board/position your opponent can’t recover from (buffed trogg, Celestial Alignment, etc.).

Thus games feel one-sided because whoever ‘goes off’ first crushes their opponent, even if they had their OTK ready to go next turn. There’s no real to and fro on the board or with life totals, just dawing cards and keeping the board clear/locked down.

I’m hopeful we can return to minion trading and a meta where value matters at least a bit after the next wave of nerfs/buffs, I believe the Alterac cards could give us a very enjoyable meta once the mistakes of UiS have been sorted.

Who knows why… maybe it is just confirmation bias, maybe it is that there is a conditional RNG or a weighted RNG. Maybe it is just to balance the matches better. Or maybe it doesn’t happen.

But it does seem to happen with great frequency no matter why or how in my observation.

Tired of seeing a particular type of opponent? Just change your deck type or character type. That usually changes the variables taken into account when the system tries to match you up with a competitive opponent.

Etc… Etc… Etc…

Well, it most likely works exactly the same as “Their” tavern brawl with random decks and their names, each with own winrate. After you win 5-10 times, you get another stong win rate decks as opponents. I bet they made that tavern brawl based on their weighted RNG system, aka “someone” big lazy work to get new Tavern into the game, out of their hidden system, which was there already.

in 2018 the systems was sooo nicely tuned but now its overly controlled.
They really pushed for a controlled win rate where the outcomes are determined due to automated system controls.

huge miscalculation

they cant recover from this as they are caught in a loop. Only a reset after game hits 0

My issue is that the meta isn’t all that different from the last expansion’s.
