Game is unplayable for many reasons

But probably chief among all reasons is that animations now frequently cause loses.

I made a post about this many times, but this is the first time I’ve seen animation lag approaching 50 percent of cause of losses. This game is simply unplayable. Key turns, for nearly all decks result in plays falling through due to animation needed to be resolved.

Either reduce theb number of cards need to be played or improve the UI of this game.

Yeah, I agree, lol

I never understood people complaining about animation times before, since I never had any troubles playing all my cards in time, but now I do, even with simple decks like BSM mage.

Some animations just take forever, while other ones are cut short for no apparent reason. For example, since last two patches I’ve been getting situations where the final minion attack won’t even show, it will just be counted on the enemy HP bar. It looks as if it didn’t even happen, but it did.

Why cut those animations instead of the long ones? There is absolutely NO reason that Tsunami takes so long to:

a) cast
b) be resolved.

Even Sunset volley takes forever, but it’s understandable

And there’s probably many more problematic ones.

You know what would be cool? An option which can be toggled on or off, which disables animations completely. Some of the animations, especially when summoning legendary minions, are way too flashy and abrupt and can cause crashes to laptops as old as mine (they do, on a daily basis, but I don’t generally complain because I know it’s on my end).

why not just be able to toggle that off to enjoy the uninterrupted gameplay?

Even the animations - I’m not a guy for aesthetics, I’m all about the functionality, and right now, the functionality is suffering in this game due to aesthetics. I think hardcore players should be forced to choose one over the other to make the game more even and fair for everyone.

If all I see is the result of animations which never happened, I still need a moment to process what happened, so it sounds fair to me. In exchange, if my thinking is fast enough, I should have a milisecond or two extra to spend on my actions.

Christ just had another game lost cause the game locked me out from choosing the titan power behind a ten second animation.

I have no idea how this game is even playable anymore. Key turns are won and lost on just being locked out of the game due to the completely unresponsive UI.

I got a couple of disconnects too yesterday. They seemed like server bugs. The connection to their datacenter was probably fine but the game just puked; though it didn’t literally affect me; it just reconnected and I lost no time (though the PC is fast).

Ah they might be related to GRAPHICS bugs, because I noticed one of them happened when one of the cards got “stuck in the air” for a couple of seconds.

At least on pc, this has a huge impact on performance.

How to remove FPS cap on Hearthstone. : r/hearthstone

That’s just the first one that came up, but there are other sets of instructions on how to do this. It makes apm in BGs much easier.

losing because animantion? i havent had tha tproblem since i changed to a pc that meets the system requeriments over a year ago

before that the animation was so slow it took a second between each ice shard from blizzard

That would HAVE to be accompanied by a reduction in the time you have each turn.

We have already seen what happens when animations are cancelled, and its not pretty.

Animations are, believe it or not, a factor of balance for APM decks.

And, yes, you would need to assume everyone is turning them off.

The problem is, nearly every competitive deck is now an APM deck at least one or two critical turns in the game, with few to no exceptions.

I’m playing spell druid and most turns are fine, but there’s consistently one or two turns every game where I need to play fifteen to thirty cards in one turn. A tone of those cards chain into some of the slowest animations in the game, such as drawing cards.

The truth is, this game has aged poorly to the point of being nearly unplayable, at least on mobile.

And you want to make them stronger?!?

If anything the animation time should be increased to account for the surge of APM decks, not removed!

I don’t think these decks count as APM decks. It’s just that for key turns, you might have to play APM combo to survive that turn.

Here’s an example. You ramp into ten mana, drop eonar, draw ten cards, get innervate plus cover artist and funnel cakes, use it to drop another eonar, refresh mana, chain into 2x underneath the stars etc… and all this just to survive the next turn.

This game has devolved to the point that if your not making broken plays your probably won’t survive.

Then a “time bank” is a far better option.

2 minutes available for the game, you can use up to 20 seconds per turn.

Removing animations will require a massive overhaul. baseline time for a turn would absolutely need to be reduced to start with.

How about all the bots and hackers (i just had a hacker who had the ‘wish for a perfect card, 0 mana’ in his hand … in WILD…

That’s an inevitable reality for the entire genre of this game (decks to have a tendency to be better on high APM), because it produces a much higher skill cap; basically the mediocre pilots up to mid-Legend will play them mediocrely; then a top pilot will be able to navigate through the fluff and be at the top more easily because the devs don’t see a big win rate registering in their stats because most people play high APM badly.

The only way that is not true is for the Devs to go out of their way and micromanage the habits of a few top players who happen to discover high APM early but the tendency remains as an inevitable reality of the genre itself.

Not just on laptops… I start to experience these crashes too on desktop PC with NVidia GTX 1050 TI video card, and 16 GB memory, Core i5… these are performance optimization issues I have to believe… I don’t have a super strong gamer PC either I know… but it is not so bad like this…

Don’t be so sure it’s congestion of resources. Sometimes the graphics of a game are just bugged, or the driver of the GPU may be bugged (which is software)and it’s always a good idea to use the best GPU drivers (they are relatively complex pieces of engineering and they easily go wrong with other complex pieces of engineering like game engines).

I didn’t mention software issues beyond graphics, basically the ways a game can crash or go wrong are countless (unless the whole OS hangs which often means hardware issues).

I’d be okay with some upping the turn time some, or incrementally upping it, like 2 seconds more every turn the game goes longer.

The game is unplayable because the cards are being designed by almost talent-free sycophants who would rather acquiesce to Corporate blood suckers, as opposed to lobbying for a better product.
They are completely apathetic, and disinterested in anything beyond drawing a paycheck.
All of the actual designers who created this game were run off years ago by day trading short- sellers who have never played this game even once, and would step on their own mothers for an extra buck.
Don’t look for people who are passionate about the game. They no longer exist.

Not sure how short-selling specifically is related to this but OK.

This problem has gotten way worse the last year I think.
If I play any Rogue deck in general, Pipsi Paladin, Overheal before it got killed or any APM deck in the past then probably 5-8% of my losses were simply because I didn’t have enough time to complete my turn.
On Pipsi Paladin I think it is the most absurd, if you do not calculate your turn way in advance and immediately start doing the OTK when your turn starts then you will often run out of time even though the combo only plays like 8-10 cards.

Key things I’ve noticed that cause problems with animations are card draw and also discovering a card after making other actions-- since discovering locks you out of doing anything else while you wait for the discover screen to pop up after every other animation before it.
Another big one is killing reborn taunts like Unkilliax. Because then you have to wait for your whole turn of animations to play out before the reborn triggers so you literally cannot target the taunt again until every other queued animation goes off.

This year I cannot play the game in full screen anymore, I have to make the window about 1/3rd the size of my screen in order to speed up animations. I have never had to do this in other games before, only Hearthstone.

If that’s a PC, it must be slow. Make sure to turn down the graphics settings.
