Epic Games Store

@EpicGames Are going to give some games, around 15, for FREE for the next 2 weeks. Go check them out.
Yet not a single expansion for free :stuck_out_tongue:

They’ve been doing a free game a month for years now, this isn’t news. Anything to get people to use their spyware content manager instead of letting Uncle Gaben continue getting a slice of the pie.

it would already be a good step in the right direction if the bpass wasn’t overpriced lol

That’s because Epic is using their billions of dollars of Fortnite money in order to buy market share, instead of earn it.

They are not saints.

Free games in 2020 feels meh anyway, since you can get many games via a subscription.

It’s no more a piece of spyware than Steam, Battle.net, UPlay or Origin, and less than iPhones or Android phones.

None of the digital game stores are run by saints, not even GOG. I’d put Epic’s ethics around the level of Valve, Ubisoft, Activision or EA, slightly better than Apple and Google and slightly worse than CDPR. But not a lot of room in either direction.

Yeah I know.
It was more about the second part :stuck_out_tongue:

Really? I had heard otherwise, but it might be misremembering. I’ve had a poor opinion of Epic since they canned the new Unreal Tournament to focus in those Fortnite dollars instead, so I don’t mind admitting I might be biased in this regard.

There was an incident last spring where they looked at players’ Steam Friends list without explicit consent “in an effort to quickly import the friends list when the player asked to do it” (their explanation), but after getting called out on the ethical (and potential legal) issues they stopped doing so.

i missed manyof those i keep forgeting to check every month

yeah but i would need to download the epic store

thats a pass

The epic store was gathering unnecessary data from your steam profile without permission or reason.

They also pay off developers releasing new games to stay exclusive fo epic for a large period of time, even if they originally weren’t. Meaning they were essentially forcing you to use epic and have your data potentially stolen while also putting up with a store and launcher near objectively worse then steam (they don’t even have an offline mode lol) if you wanted to play a certain game within a year release.

The only reason they give out so many free games is to bribe you into using their sheety launcher.

At least Epic Games compensates you for your information they gather. Unlike most other companies that just get your info for nothing.

if you want to complain about MTG arena not giving out full expansion for free

shouldnt you do this 0n their forums ?

I dont wanna complain, I just had a wish :stuck_out_tongue:

Its more like Weeks than Months. And its worth it.

It’s also worth noting that starting today (Dec 17th) and until the end of the year they’ll have a new free game every day instead of their usual weekly schedule.

Downloaded it yesterday because of the every day freebies for the rest of december. I really hate to keep these different launchers and like having everything in my Steam library, but free is free and Epic has been pretty generous with the free stuff to lure the customers. Who knows - maybe it will become better than Steam one day. For now I’m ready to pay only on Steam. As to security concerns - I doubt that Epic spies on you more than others, I’m pretty sure they all spy on you one way or another, even our big daddy Gaben.
