âWell played.â

Literally this, what does it for me is people emoting after you conceded.
Such toxicity for no reason.
Just move on to the next game, and keep your chin up!
I donât think thereâs enough emotes. Sometimes I want to say something like âwow, I got so lucky with that pull Iâm sorry for your bad luckâ but Iâm only given the Wow emote option and people think itâs me taunting them.
On the flip side, I also want emotes for people who get lucky like in your case and they think they did some super skilled move and then threaten emote you. Like an emote that says not impressed or something.
HS is such a weird game with communication.
RIP sorry emote. At least you still exist in wild
Another reason to love the Mayor.

Formatting nightmare!
Eternally hoping for auto-squelch, myself.
I wish I had my recording or if there was a way to search HSReplays for cards that were played in my history.
My favorite is when a Mage had iceblock up, dropped his 4 apprentice and Antonidas infinite fireball combo, emoted me, then mayor put in work and he killed off his own apprentice before taking his own fireball to his own face killing himself.
Immediate friend request with so much cussing and anger about me being lucky followed and it was so good.
Thanks you all im feeling better il only squelch those who are rude because there are times when something cool happens and you have friendly emoting
I mentioned in a different thread that one of the best moments Iâve had in this game is when I heard what happens when Sai replies hello to another Sai saying hello. Gold. I also adore Sally Whitemaneâs voice. âHow unfortunateâ is my favorite emote.
I genuinely believe that people bring their own meaning to emotes, that there is not an absolute or correct answer.
I say well played, I mean good game, thank you - just like I would in chess or poker. Shake hands, next table.
Somehow it does not matter the context, but there are people who believe every emote is taunting them every time. That is a level of paranoia I cannot identify with.
I am almost certain none of todays generation would survive sitting at a table for a MTG tournament in the very early days of the game. The amount of Trash talk and out right threats were common place. You needed a VERY thick skin in those days to play competitively.
You are exaggerating. It was not common behavior. Card rooms had rules regarding conduct during tournaments. Stop trying to normalize foul behavior.
I remember once having an 8 or 9 year old tell me (at the time a 30-something adult) that he was going to murder me and my whole family if I beat him at some MTG release event. This is probably around Invasion - maybe 2000ish?
Yeah it was a whole different thing to have people âemoteâ at you. In person. Violently.
Edit - no it was not common, but it was not unheard of.
Sooooo⌠did he?
gasp
Are you a g-g-g-ghost!?!? Yoinks! Come on, Scoob! We gotta get back to the Mystery Machine!!!
I remember once in my local comic shop, during an in-house tourney; my brother was playing his poison counter deck and won against a guy playing his Icy Manipulator deck. The guy THREW his remaining hand in my brotherâs face and threatened to meet him in the parking lot. My brother was 17 at the time; the guy was around 30(ish?). He was immediately perma banned from the shop and escorted out by the ownerâs brother.
I lost that match. I lost most matches, I was decidedly NOT good at MTG back then. Having a little kid threaten me did not actually throw me off my game because I didnât have any.
Haha Iâve never played in an official room or anything, but my friend that taught me how to play MTG in the military and invited over to play after I went out to buy my first deck to play against his. It was only my second game ever. He was a seasoned player.
He had a blue Timmy ping mage deck. I bought some green buff deck that had ancestral masks, thatâs all I remember. I destroyed him every single time, it wasnât even close. Like 5 games. Then he said my deck was designed too strong. Then I made a deck based on his cards and he played my deck I bought.
Again, I destroyed him like 3 times in a row. He was FURIOUS. I had basically made him question his entire deck building skills. Last game he tossed his cards on the ground and said he was done and told me to please leave in a raging mad tone. We never played again together just 1v1.
I learned that day that I would never play face to face MTG with anyone in any serious play. People take it so seriously about winning or losing like itâs some massive competitive and intellectual game. It doesnât surprise me when people say rooms could get crazy with emotion. I could totally see it.
