That’s right folks. It’s the OG hype archetype that Wardrum just wouldn’t shut the heck up about - Elemental Mage!
Inspired by a strong feeling I have that Elemental Mage will be receiving significant support this year (and general boredom with the meta) I’ve been playing a LOT of Elemental/Cyclone/Chenvaala/you-know-what-I’m-talking-about Mage lately and having a blasty blast.
I’m certainly no master at it yet, but a little farther down I’ll be sharing a guide from someone who is and managed to hit #3 Legend with it!
EDIT: as I’ve played both lists more, I’m really starting to prefer Tiger’s build despite my initial reservations about running Book of Spectres. It can be found in the guide below.
So if you have the spare cards lying around and you want something more exciting to play, I honestly cannot recommend this deck enough.
Firebat just doctored an ele mage that seems good, watch some of his latest videos if you want ideas, then again that guy can pilot a bazar burglary rogue with 2 spectral cuttlases to rank 4
You’d think so, but I’ve barely logged like 75 matches this entire month so far lol. The initial comment is just a poke at how enthusiastic I was about Elemental Mage back in the Year of The Mammoth and early Raven on the old forums.
Don’t mean to derail the thread at all… but did he really do the ‘burgle rogue with two cutlass to rank 4’ thing? I exclusively play cutlass burgle rogue and would love to see that decklist.
To be fair, this thread is mainly about current Mage lol. Besides, Blood Mages were basically just Elves that went full-on angsty Fire Mage for the most part. Still plenty of potential for Elementals!
I saw this, an figured you did a good job hyping it up that I went an tried to build it.
Found myself missing 2 cards Khadgar an Scorch (lol like how is that possible). Scorch isn’t a problem to make however, I need you to pitch me on crafting Khadgar.
Coupled with Conjurer’s Calling, he simply wins games on turn 5/6+, even in the worst of matchups if you can get a Giant down.
Check out Tiger’s build/guide that I linked. I played it quite a but yesterday to get a feel for it and can honestly say I’m starting to prefer it to my own build.
Delfunk was talking about the Blood Elf Blood Mages in relation to the Year of the Phoenix. There are users of blood magic on Azeroth (and Draenor) but the Blood Elf “Blood Mages” are not them. They just focus on Fire magic and are known for being able to summon Phoenixes.
In the Midrangey curvy sense yes, but Elemental Mage is a very different type of deck than it used to be. It’s full of explosive plays now rsther than just plodding, incremental, value power.
I play an eley tempo mage as well, but highlander version.
I figured adding the power of the highlander cards in a tempo deck will push it a lot further.
Hunter, quest priest and rogue the deck is good against but embigen druid, albatross priest and mage mirrors stomp it.
Especially embigen druid outstats eleys like crazy
My blood cries out for the vengeance of my people’s blood! Which can only be repaid with at least twice as much blood! Or maybe three times as as much blood! Like if you went to hell, and and it was full of blood, and that blood was on fire, and maybe THAT would be enough blood…
I have to agree on Khadgar he can win games coupled with conjurers calling. I have been playing an Auto complete Mage deck for a few days which is pretty close to the most popular elemental decks and it is surprisingly good. I dont have Stargazer Luna however and do not plan crafting her. Next rotation and if this deck gets more supporting cards I can see it doing well.
This is what I use, I am thinking about cutting Book of Scepters what are your thoughts? For 1 Firehawk and 1 Quicksand Elemental. I think Firehawk is very under used and can put on some early pressure.
I don’t have the cards (Mage usually isn’t my playstyle) but I do have to say that this list seems more midrangey/swingy than the randomness of cyclone mage and the incremental damage of DK Elemental Mage.
Does it feel more stable? Would it possible to borrow this deck from you sometime?
Finally, out of all the drafts you’ve made for elemental Mage, what is it about this one that makes it consistent?
I know earlier you mentioned Khadgar+Giants and I see Luna is in there for draw. What are some of the worst matchups you’ve had?
