There needs to be Arrows (Left and right) to quickly tag on minions to help your partner know to switch them around. The higher IQ players are using the checks on the two minions to switch but in my experience few players understand this.
Another helpful tag would be one that shows you are picking the class at start of game. Again high IQ players are using a check early on to show which way they are heading.
Besides having to lose due to losing teammates for whatever reason, I really like the game play of duos and am curious to see what fun things they will add to it.
A rating system built into partner experience would be good. One for skill and one for toxicity. Even though the system could be abused it would be a badge of honor if it was publicly shown for both the trolls and the patriots.
It would also be nice to have some type of rewards track that last past the season. Like a currency that can be slowly earned and used to but emoticons, etc, from seasons past, current, or future. The more replay corporate has, the more they are worth anyway.

There are a lot of things they could do in order to make the duo’s communication better and overall turn efficiency better.
When I queue with randoms - I feel in about 25% of cases one of us is clearly the better player (and in 40% of cases the partner concedes or afks before the game starts, and in 35% we’re about equal).
This means essentially 1 player is coaching the other. And I’ve been on both sides of this.
When I try to introduce my friends to this game mode - I am definitely trying to coach them, yes we’re in discord - but the interface could make things faster.
There needs to be a node icon in the right click options, and when I assign that icon to 2-4 things in a row, it needs to draw arrows between the cards from the first to the last.
So if I’m like “Hey buy this patient scout, sell it immediately, get and pay whatever the minion is, and then use that gold from the sell to buy this other minion” on turn 3 - I’m not just putting 2 check marks on to units the player can’t afford right off the bat and hoping they buy them in the right order.
The “switch the units” , or “I’m going to focus on getting your build together for a few turns as support” or “This is the tribe I’m leaning in the direction of”, or “don’t pay attention to this early game build I’m still looking for direction” (when your out of comms partner is wasting gold portalling you stuff.
Duos would be a good opportunity to make a more positive communication experience and make friends in the game mode, but the communication tools we have are a bit too crude for the job they need to do.
Personally I would love it if I changed a Portal icon my partner puts on a minion to a checkmark - it just bought and portalled it over to them automatically, but that’s a bridge too far for the dev team probably.
