Duels needs constant updates every new expansion, the reason Mercenaries is still in the game is because they never have to touch the mode again for it to work, so there isnt any resson to remove it

If they shorted the lenghty paths to get to a boss and brought some new heroes or just higher levels, I could see people playing again. they added mythic boss rush a while ago, which was somewhat refreshing

Make a Paper Mario-like experience. You walk with your card around World of Hearthstone. You enter the Center of Competitions and you queue for your Ladders of Arena/BGs/Constructed.
On the road you make friends, and can ask for duels.

Duels was a free mode, Mercenaries was not (in comparison to duels). A lot of people put a fair amount of money into mercenaries so the likelihood that they were just drop a mode entirely to bring back another mode that was free that also had low engagement is very unlikely.

I don’t want either.
They sold specific packs of cards that are only usable in that mode. They don’t want to have to refund everything because the mode was shut down so rapidly. Even contesting litigation that ultimately failed would be a massive hit to the bottom line. Easier to leave it be.
Duels was a paid mode for rewards and ranking, but the purchase was discreet tickets.
The cards were the same as current constructed modes so they didn’t lose all value.
The tickets are also able to be used in arena, so also not a loss.
Merc packs were unique to the mode, which is why it will sit for a while until they feel comfortable shutting it all the way down.
