Does Whirlpool Really…?

Whirlpool reads that it destroys minions and their copies no matter where they are. So are both players left with only spells?
I’m thinking they just forgot to either add in , “and then,” or split the text into two sentences, because that seems way too powerful.

It only destroys copies of minions destroyed by the initial effect. It doesn’t just delete all minions from both decks.

By definition, it should destroy those in your collection too. So you have to craft your minions or buy packs again.

Beat me to it lol

Not only that. If you’re at a competition, it also destroys copies of everyone elses cards, and everyone elses in the world, no matter where they are. Stops cheaters in case they have cards in their pockets

It definitely needs a comma after “destroy all minions” (but no need for additional words). The way it’s written currently, it indeed writes that “wherever they are” applies to both the copies-part AND the regular minions part (though granted, if it worked that way the copies-part would’ve been redundant).

Next expansion will feature Whirlpool 9, which will be intended to destroy all minions in the game, but all games are connected through the Internet and it will actually delete every minion in the history of Hearthstone from collection everywhere.

A comma after “destroy all minions” wouldn’t actually work, since a comma there would be ungrammatical and thus wouldn’t make the separation you’re thinking.

It would probably need to be either:

  1. “Destroy all minions. Also, destroy all copies of them (wherever they are).”

or

  1. Repeating the verb “destroy” after the “and” to make it clear that the parentheses only applies to the second object (the copies) and not both.

Imagine in game right now you’re just playing a regular ranked game. You’re about to play your Reno and heal to full…

…suddenly, it disappears from your hand.

Reno! Where did you go!!?!?!?

And then you look up at your opponent…who is a Mage who played the Reno hero a few turns earlier starts to fade away ala End Game Thanos snap.

Imagine all the politicians that would vanish overnight.

All joke aside, it would have been nice if whirlpool was 8 mana instead of 9, it would be a serious consideration for the 8-slot in a quest deck.

I was confused by the wording at first too. IMO, it would be more clear if they squeezed in “in play” (or “on the board”, maybe?) after “Destroy all minions” but before “and all copies of them” part.

It could have easily been and probably will be an 8 mana card.

And it will delete them from packs, so you have to make decks with only spells. This means the most overpowered class will be mage, particularly the only-spell mage in wild. Quests like Unite the Murlocs are no longer physically playable since you can’t have murlocs in your deck. And since no one will want minion AoE like Flamestrike or Holy Nova anymore, Stand Against Darkness will also be a broken card.

Please tell me this is a troll post…
And if it isn’t, Whirlpool only destroys copies of the minions that were destroyed on the battlefield, not all minions in both decks. It works similarly to Flik Slyshiv.

nope, it destroys the card on the board, in your hand and in your deck. Pirate are safe inside Nellie’s ship though.
Very good tech car against shudderwock, if shudderwock deck were ever a thing in standard.

It would be bad for 8mana too, i can imagine this card in quest priest and priest lacks 7cost cards.
