Slay the spire is like 10 dollars and 5 if you buy it on discount. Constructed is already 80-200 dollars per expansion and the meta is getting waaay too fast for half the cards to even see play so you’re just wasting most of those cards anyway. Duels asks you to have a full collection and now they want to dip again in our pockets with an EXHORBITANT price tag for something that looks lame, not even half polished and hyper gacha to play? They went too far.

People use Slay the Spire as comparison, but is it the right comparison?
Mercenary has Player versus Player. Slay the Spire doesn’t.
Also, Slay the Spire looks ugly. Just being honest here. Ignoring that, we know not enough about the Mercenary mode.
It’s kinda going to compete with regular Hearthstone mode as well.

Honestly i tried reading the merc pack information and i only feel still confused.
Apparentlly packs can have Portraits of characters you don’t own, but the wording is confusing.
Mercenary Coins Drop Rates
A pack can contain one or more drops of Mercenary Coins of any Mercenary, and each drop will be in between 35 and 45 coins.
- Rare Coins: Rare Coins can drop 12 times in 10 Mercenaries Packs on average
- Epic Coins: Epic Coins can drop 10 times in 10 Mercenaries Packs on average
- Legendary Coins: Legendary Coins can drop 8 times in 10 Mercenaries Packs on average
Mercenary Portraits Drop Rates
All Mercenaries have 3 Golden Mercenary Portraits. All Legendary Mercenaries also have a Diamond Mercenary Portrait.
Whenever you obtain a Mercenary Portrait from a pack, the Portrait you receive will be based on the following baseline percentages:
- For Legendary Mercenaries: 30% chance to get each of the 3 Golden Portraits and 10% chance to get the Diamond Portrait
- For Rare and Epic Mercenaries: 33.3% chance to get each of the 3 Golden Portraits
When you obtain a Mercenary Portrait, the drop rate for the remaining Mercenary Portraits is dynamically recalculated, with new proportions based on your individual collection of Portraits for that Mercenary.
You will not obtain the same Mercenary Portrait until you own all the Mercenary Portraits for that Mercenary. Once you own all the Portraits for a Mercenary, you can obtain a second copy of a Mercenary Portrait, which will automatically be converted into Coins of that Mercenary: 50 coins for Rare, 75 coins for Epic, and 100 coins for Legendary Mercenaries.
Occasionally, you may obtain a Mercenary Portrait prior to obtaining its Mercenary Card. When that happens, you will be able to play that Mercenary with the Mercenary Portrait, and you could get the Mercenary Card from packs.
So… If you get the merc… Of a portrait you don’t own, you can have three different pictures of a merc and open up a portrait you don’t earn and use it? Or do you only get to use it later? It sounds like you could use it, but i’m also confused if that sounds right or if they just mean later. Hopefully it means usable though.
But what we know for sure, Mercenaries is another mode to scam people. While slay the spire is not.

This is just reminding me that im still working on unlocks in the Downfall mod for Slay the Spire. So thanks for that.
Team 5’s been told to milk that cow before the entire company falls apart. Just keep your mouths shut and feed them more.
If you do want to play it and we share one currency, gold for both, it might be suicide to try and do it on a main to try and pressure people into buying card packs for both. And activision blizz has been all about the dollar signs honestly.
If you can play it on a alt like battlegrounds i guess, then you could just make a seperate alt to play both like a battlegrounds enthusiasts.
But. Honestly, two separate currencies earned in two seperate ways would probably be best, I don’t want to to split already tight gold between two game modes if that’s the way. But if they’re earned seperately, having two games in one app could be neat. But i don’t want my main hearthstone gold touched at all. Unless merc mode gives just as money back out as in.
Which i kinda, given history trusting in blizz and always seeing money signs come first, im not gonna hold breath for.
You would need to have all of the portraits of mercs of that rarity that you own before getting a new portrait… so basically never.
