I recently watched Day9’s video from a day ago where he played Hearthstone, and it made me realize just how much the game has deteriorated.
Everything simply does way… way too much.
The game consists of two people fighting with overpowered cards but underpowered health pools, which have remained static at 30 ever since they were deemed actually appropriate as a resource, and not a mere restriction for OTK decks to be allowed to kill you, else you could just heal to 100 by turn 10.
Every turn it’s a swing, and the swing is substantial. Like, you get double the amount of stats based on the amount of mana you use, along with a powerful effect on top.
The board itself seems irrelevant; it’s all about the effects. Cards might as well be spells with added text like “Create an X/X body.”
This can’t possibly be a post-Rotation meta.
Just watching my opponent play an Aggro deck, and consistently dumping their hand and it not becoming smaller but actually enlarging the more the turns pass is triggering. Yet, this still remains the most “fair” style of deck you’ll see nowadays.
Beyond that, control decks have polarizing win conditions that make the game a “better draw” contest. There are scam decks that can generate 50/50 stats by turn 5 and decks that can heal for 30+ in a single game, even in classes that shouldn’t have healing at all.
I’m done believing that things will improve because they won’t. The game will continue to worsen without a major redesign.
Their latest “player agency” patch highlighted just how out of touch they are. Don’t waste your time on this game.
Sadly the game isn’t going to get better with the people currently running it. They reached the bottom of the barrel for dev talent to save a few nickels.
You know it’s bad when the lead designer essentially admits what a disaster the post rotation was.
The game has power crept in a way I have never seen before outside of maybe Yugioh. Going from Mind Control being a 10 mana class specific spell to Yog being less mana, more abilities, and a body with a mind control is very telling.
Watching priest get 2 titans off a highlander card trigger and knowing they have 2 more copies or druid/rogue taking 30+ mana turns also shows where we are at.
If they do not tone down the power creep the game will just be unplayable. I am running hand buff pally at the moment and can consistently drop 20+ damage from hand t7-8.
The dev team is turning Standard into Wild, and they didn’t just start; they’ve been at it for a few years, now.
I have a laundry list of specific complaints about the game in its current state; suffice to say that I can’t remember ever being as frustrated with the game as I am now… not even during Mean Streets.
And it’s not just Standard; Wild is a !@#$show. I’ve hit legend every month in both Standard in Wild, for years. Last month was the first time I checked-out of Wild in frustration. From this point forward, I think I’ll care for Wild about as much as Blizzard does. Which is to say, not at all. I know there are very good business reasons to not invest in the quality of the Wild mode, but I think the overall game is worse for neglecting it, and that’s sad.

Does anyone really care? In the end of the day most are adult enough to understand it is only a game and what is said on the forums are an overstatement.
Not necessarilly untrue but far less intense than what people describe.
If you decide to move on I hope you find a great game and never look back. If you stick around hopefully this game gets better. I suspect this game is possibly going to get left behind after the merger with the new ownership company.
