This isn’t a post after 1 salty loss. This is a post after approximately 103 salty losses. I am begging the dev team to please just alter this one card to increase my player agency 10 thousand fold. My issue isn’t with any card Warrior plays except for Boomboss. There is no true counterplay. I’ve watched professional players get blown out by this card many times. It turns out, despite all the Dirty Rats, E.T.C. Tony’s, and keeping your hand full, it’s probably the strongest late game card ever printed in the history of the game. The fact that the bombs are a hand rip, a board nuke, and mill you out is completely heinous that it made it through testing. Out of any card game I have ever played, including Yu-Gi-Oh, Magic: The Gathering, Pokemon, Dragon Ball, and a few others, this is without a doubt in my mind the most overpowered, broken, badly designed card I have ever seen. The best way to actually combat this card is to be playing a deck fast enough that you can run Warrior out of the game before they even get a chance to play it which is easier said than done as they have probably the strongest board clears of any class. Being forced to play in a specific way because a card exists in a deck isn’t exactly my idea of constructing a solid, fun metagame. Warrior has very strong win conditions already in the form of their excavate package, or Odyn, or Inventor Boom, or literally anything. They don’t need the most broken card ever made. Give him rush, have his bombs just be the deal 5 damage. Reduce his mana cost. Whatever it is, just please get rid of these current bombs because they are just awful for the health of the game. I’m sure there’s statistically stronger decks in the game at the moment like handbuff pally and that is more of a priority in terms of balance changes but I doubt that there is a single card hurting player agency more than Boomboss. Make a poll on twitter or something. Find out what card players hate the most. If I queued into that crap my first game back from the several year long break I took, I would instantly uninstall. I wouldn’t make this post unless I cared about the game and had plenty of stuff to like about it as it is. I just want the game to be better and I want to stop getting my cards ripped out of my hand.

There’s no way to stop Boomboss once it goes. It’s stupid.
I include in the post counters to the card. Rat, Tony, Kurtress, filling your hand, Killing the Warrior. The answers don’t always work out and they aren’t reliable. That is what I mean when I say there is no true counterplay.
I’ve played Yu-Gi-Oh since 2018. I have regional tops. I’m well aware of disgusting, miserably unfun cards like Gumblar, Shock Master, Shifter, Mystic Mine. Do you know what the least fun cards to be up against are? The cards with no counterplay. Lingering floodgates – cards you can’t interact with. Cards like D barrier, Eradicator, feather storm. Turn skips and hand rips are the 2 things to avoid when making your card game especially when there’s no room to interact with your opponent to stop them from happening. Boomboss can’t be interacted with and is a multi-card hand rip and then the cherry on top is the field nuke and he goes ahead and removes any answers you might have still had left in your deck as well. There is nothing in Yugioh on that level. There never has been. They’re printing support for an FTK deck next month and I’m not concerned because hand traps exist. All I have to stop my opponent from clicking the “I win” button in this game is a rat that likely will miss.
they wont, just look at highlander cards, they literally made them uninteractable, because screw you thats why, it twists the knife even more when they literally printed snake oil salesman to add some level of counter play
or druid, or priest, or rogue, or warlock (and when shaman does it, they get shafted instead of letting it pass, because they hate shaman)
the only way you can fix it is by adding cheap effective and immediately punishing counters, like hungry crab should exist for a bunch of these things
“Filling your hand and not playing in order to keep your hand full, burning your own cards in the hopes that you burn bombs first” should never be considered a viable play strategy.
If the PROPER strategy to counter a card is “Have you tried NOT playing the game?” then that is bad design.
Terrible analogy. They changed Highlander cards because if you countered a Highlander card, you weren’t countering the card, you were countering their whole deck. The wording of Highlander cards plus the existence of counters meant Highlander decks were almost unplayable. Boomboss is ONE card being counterable, in a deck that already has 4 other win conditions.
While I agree that you shouldn’t be able to shut down all of Highlander, the fact is that cards are so good in 2024 that there is basically no downside to playing Highlander now, and there is no counter-play to it. That combination is the issue.
Technically, there is one, which is Tony now that he replaces your deck.
It’s not a good counter, but it does exist.
Once your deck is empty enough though, Tony probably isn’t going to work.
Imagine needing to use a 1 of to swap decks with your opponent as a counter. Imagine when it hits your turn your 1 of “counter” gets nuked.
I once posted something along the lines of how “they enjoy your suffering trying to best their p2win cards” how the struggle of being run down by an aggro deck t4-5 gives them joy.

So making them UNINTERACTABLE was solution? No, that doesn’t make any sense what so ever, this isn’t 2013 where highlander is a meme deck, like you said have MULTIPLE wincons, some that are not highlander and the card quality of non highlander cards is very good, that the only counter was 1(ONE) class that wasn’t very good, plague dk, and still they had a decent winrate against it, and the only deck that was doing better was not plague dk, it an aggro one with grasp dh. If your decks existence is threaten by 1(ONE) class, you don’t understand balance, because if 1(ONE) class is being played in response to variety of decks, not only is it a problem with that class, those decks are still culpable of the environment they created. The only reason why people kept playing plague dk was because how strong and how you had no alternative to actually stopping highlander, which was everywhere and still is, snakeoil salesmen doesn’t cut it and no albatross; and now you can’t actually stop them from playing 3 elises, or nest, or reno, or brann. So unless they nerf highlander cards severely, cards need to exist to punish them just as severely while being effective when being unable to punish to be worth considering, because there is nothing you can do except pray that they draw worse than you do, which is really hard for that to happen because draw is insane right now.
I agree with everything except the idea that the original Reno was a meme deck. That was good back then. Loved it.

well nobody ran a pure highlander back then, people usually ran 1 or 2 pairs of a card somewhere, and even then sometime people just threw a reno in just cause the game was incredibility slow that you can wait to draw those duplicates
Okay, but it still wasn’t a gimmick or meme deck. Before the change, even recently people would run multiple copies of some cards.
And yeah, it was slower then, that’s why that Reno was good. Now the game is so strong that that Reno isn’t any good. Now the game is so strong, so consistent, hence why this Reno is so broken. There’s little downside to running Highlander, and this Reno completely makes up for it and then some, and now there is no counter to Highlander. Before there was, when it was even weaker. Crazy how that works, huh?
im not talking about 2024 highlander where running dupes is inconsequential because you can draw an insane amount cards
2015 highlander is meme deck because there wasnt enough good cards at the time, but it was slow as dirt back then, it wasnt until karazhan highlander was much more viable because quantity and quality of cards went to reach critical mass of effectiveness, then you had kazakus in mean streets
