First I wanna say, very cool to add DH to HS! I’ve always wanted to see that. It took long enough for wow to add the DH class (12 years!)
It’s jarring to see the DH summon demons. It’s just not something the class would do. They’re not a summoning class, and they don’t consort with demons.
Satyr overseer, pit commander, and raging felscreamer all are against the demon hunter class fantasy and should be designed to something else.
And before I hear it, yes Illidan is considered a demon himself. Does not change anything about consorting/summoning with demons. DH fight fire w/fire by using demon energies and becoming demons themselves, but they never ever summon them.
In 2016 WoW lore updated a lot of that nonsense where he was just a dungeon boss villain to being a misunderstood secret hero in Legion.
In any case, Illidan’s forces NEVER had a pit lord. They would never follow him nor would he allow one in his armies. He imprisoned Magtheridon, and only to drain his blood and use it for his armies.
Why have lore at all if you are just going to throw them in the garbage?
Why have this game built around WoW if it’s going to abandon WoW rules?
Why is Demon Hunter even the new class when it clearly isn’t Demon Hunter? Why not give it another name?
What is wrong with you?
I was playing with Illidan before they made WoW. He had Murlocs and Naga initially; and thankfully Blizzard is giving him both, so they’re doing right by me.
Hell Sonny, when I started playing Warcraft Bloodlust was a Warlock Spell. And you don’t see me all up in arms about them switching it over to Shamans.
Furthermore Sonny, everyone is summoning something. What would you have them summon, pretty faeries?
Black Temple, 2007 - lot’s o’ Demons (and Naga, OMGosh!) there. Not an actual Pit Lord, I’ll give you that, but about anything rank and file from Sargeras’ posse.
As pointed out already, Hearthstone is a fantasy world within a fantasy world - i.e. Azeroth’s inhabitants spinning stories about their favorite lore characters and adding “a bit” spice.
I don’t see what’s canonically wrong with Demon Hunters using demons for their own ends. That’s exactly what Demon Hunters do. If a demon hunter thought that they’d kill more demons by using a demon, they’d do it.
Even the DH mount in Legion looks like a demon. There’s demons all over their order hall.
Sick reference dude, totally got me there boomer.
Yes lore can be changed no doubt, games, tv shows and book stories have been changing the backstory of their characters for ages. If WOW said changed the lore of the DH and said they do like demons now and summons them, sure that would be 100% fine. But they DIDN’T.
HS is violating WOW lore on a new champion. Which ruins the point of calling the class Demon Hunter to begin with. Why stop there? Why not have it summon Multocs and everything like you said? Why even bring anything resembling DH if all the rules are to be broken?
But dude, once again you TOTALLY got me on the Sony part, SICK!!!
Why call it Demon Hunter if it doesn’t fit the role of Demon Hunter. Why not call it Demon summoner? Demon lover, Elf Demon? How come Azeroth’s inhabitants add enough lore to get the names of classes correct but just “spices” every other part of the game?
Would Demon hunters and specifically Illidan use demons?
Yes he would.
In the novel Illidan it is described how the demon hunters are created; elves consuming the hearts of demons to bind their souls to theirs; they use demons to gain power. To then use that power to take out the bigger threats.
Sure there might still demons in Outland but that doesn’t mean DHers will summon them to their aid like a warlock would.
And that’s the problem. HS team is making up their own lore. Unless it is canon in WOW, it breaks the immersion of DH. There is no reason for the class to be called that.
How come mages can’t summon demon since Medivh had fel magic? How come the demons didn’t follow power then?
By that logic why don’t every tribe follow demon hunters because they “follow power.” How comes DH don’t have Multocs, elementals and more?
There is so many more questions to be answered then a simply “oh they followed power.” For a class breaking immersion as big as this.
It’s just lazy craftsmanship to put demons in a class that doesn’t have demons because you don’t care about the game and cover your bases later down the road. Why not make the minion a follower of Illdian instead? No that would be just too much work. We have the demon art drawn out already.
