Too much RNG, doesn’t matter if you’re 2800 or 12800, you can’t play better than the RNG you’re dealt.

There are things that players with higher MMR have used to get their rating. Placement for example, is of incredible importance to a winning line-up and could mean the difference between first and second place.
There is SOME skill involved, it’s not just the RNG factor or a multitude of people wouldn’t still be at 5,000 or below.

If it’s too much RNG, why do some people keep climbing?

They’re just luckier than you?

Nah, can’t agree with that. I’ve gone up tons of MMR recently just playing more smartly.
Instead of going for killer combos and trying to make it to #1 finisih I’m picking better cards and aiming to finish in top 4. It’s a different strategy and a lot more rewarding since 90% of the time I’m in the top 4.
While aiming for brann+murlocs or something similar that will get me to #1, I often ended up placed 7-8th as the RNG went against me.

There’s definitely randomness at play (a fair bit more than I like, personally) but just as with card games, the smaller decisions made by the better players will trend them upward, even if they get roflstomped by Lady RNG here and there.

The title of this thread is correct. MMR is a meaningless number and people should not chase it at the sacrifice of enjoyment.

Everything that came after the title is nonsense.

i used to agree with the op but not anymore, i’ve watched videos where you can have terrible rng, very useless minions, bad rng with fights etc…and still win at 12k mmr, choices (to buy or to lvl up because you can afford it, avoid cleaves, buy or counter a zapp etc…) matter

Thats a good enlightenment.

To OP. Give me a lobby with 7 2.8k, i will get top 4 at leasy 90+% of the time.

It’s true, but for different reasons. There’s definitely a noticable change in skill, but I can say that because of something I and progressively more and more players do: concede over and over just to play the character we want.

I constantly go between 3000-6000, and it’s very easy to spot more and more players doing the same: more and more games see an instant concede right from the start, and it’s even gotten to the point where I even see games with multiple concedes right from the start. Also very noticably at lower MMR I face people who are noticably better than the other players in that game.

With more and more people purposely screwing over their MMR to play with the hero of their choice, MMR has less and less impact because skill goes all over the place this way.

I want to get in those lobby’s, I’ve never seen more than 1 player ghost from the start

Depends on what MMR you are in. The lower your MMR gets, the more you find people who don’t care about MMR. They’re pretty rare between 5000-6000 but any lower and it picks up on speed. Double concedes are still rare (still far more likely compared to “never ever” as it was before), but I sometimes see them between 3000-4000 where instant concedes get quite common.

I guess that makes sense. I’m just shy of 7k atm

My MMR is usually between 5-6K and I would GUESS that about 80% of games start with one person ghosting out at the lobby or within 2 rounds.
