title, like why is this allowed to hit the mages own minions ? it’s criminal !
Let me just destroy all of my skeletons, replace them with more skeletons, and next turn play Kel’Thuzad. ![]()

Unfortunately the only real counter is a mass poly or a devolve effect, as just silencing and killing them still builds up Kel’s skellie counter. Is it bad that I can’t really decide which is more disgusting? Imp warlock’s spam/buffing and feeding Denathrius…skeleton mage spam/boom booms feeding into Kel/Denathrius…shaman/druid spam feeding into multiple Denathrius battlecries…what do these all have in common? lol
Indeed its criminal how bad the card is since the expansion release all Skeleton Mage does is drops in the tier list.
But im sure tier 3 is not enouth for you it needs to go lower , nerf please .
Agreed. This deck is too good as well as unfun to play against. Kill it.
not only explode all of the skeletons but also randomly deal 14 damage then replace them!
also I can’t tell if those last 2 posts are satire ? I am actually runnning into so many mages its unreal, I had a 10 attack mutanus on board that sniped 1 of the 3 win conditions and it didn’t attack for 5 turns, just dropped both locations alternated freezing it while also generating skeletons XD
how is that considered “ok” but snowfall not ?
I remember I was arguing with some people on the forums about how good the card would be.
I said at 5 mana it was absolutely game breaking and at 6 would still be pretty good, they said even at 5 mana it was bad to average, lol.
Yeah we need to find that thread lol i said this card would be a necessity and would be good.
The fools were saying it was like blastwave…hahahaha
I believe we were even talking about the 5 mana cost
Well, turns out having an easier requirement and a better effect which immediately gives you board presence is way better than blastwave ever was.
Yeah, everyone was overlooking the skeletons and focusing on the damage. It’s All about the skeletons.
I think its really weird that everything mage does only hits the opposite side of the board, even their big spells “target enemies” and then this they let hit everything because its twice as good if your skeleton thing kills your skeletons then instantly replaces them ><
It can be frustrating, but, the truth is this card isn’t overpowered in that (diamond through legend) the card has a ~54% drawn winrate. Forgive me for being facetious earlier. ![]()
I realize that how a card feels is important. Although, I honestly enjoy playing Spooky Mage and don’t mind playing against it. That’s just me.
I think the reason Spooky Mage has dropped in the tier list is that a lot of people are playing Quest and/or Face Hunter. This is driving down the win rate for Spooky Mage. Otherwise, I am fairly sure it would be a Tier 1 deck and may very well be if Face Hunter is down-tuned enough with the upcoming balance patch. I think this patch will surely be the first of many balance adjustments to MACN.
You are correct. Running Renathal might be a good idea. You can also include minions that provide you armor.
If you think a 1 dmg decrease on the hunter bow is going to make Skeleton Mage jump 2 tiers in the ranks you are out of your mind.
All the nerfs have been revealed we only have some of the buffs left on the patch.
That deck can only go down in the ranks, and buckle up because if what they have ready in buffs for Rogue and Demon Hunter hits the mark thats 2 other classes that have a history of having Mages for lunch.
If i had a cent for every chump that said that deck would be broken on release i would have enouth to pull a scrooge mcduck.
Because of it doesn’t, it’s broken?
Consider:
The mage has 7 skeletons. They can’t trade with none as to not kill them pre-deathborne, so they do 14 damage.
The mage has 7 skeletons: they can hit for 14 and then for more 14 from deathrattles and then death borne kills your minions.
The solution: have 3 health minions, don’t let them keep a board of skeletons, stay above 10 health, keep a board.
Yeah, I was definitely in the boat of saying deathborne was fine at 6, and that blast wave was a poor comparison because this doesn’t require an overkill, and has a pretty large upside with skeleton generation.
It’s a situational card for sure, but when that situation lined up, it’s hugely powerful.
It’s looking like Big Spell Mage is making a comeback as it’s currently high tier two. Face Hunter is also tier two, below BSM. Also worth noting is that Quest Hunter is at a playrate of 5.5% (D4-D1 (past three days)). Face Hunter stands at 6.8%. So, hunter represents a healthy playrate it would seem. While Spooky Mage has other bad matchups, overall I don’t believe it’s really be held back to a significant degree.
a come back? it was never gone?
Perhaps. I don’t recall seeing it on tier lists, at least not at tier two. I must’ve missed it.
