Dean Ayala Q and A

he talks about how they have considered making HS four expansions a year and getting rid of mini sets.
What do you guys think?

Mass pack opening is on the to do list.

I want a “Dust every card except classes X, Y, z and neutral” option.

not much concrete there.

as usual.

4 expansions a year wouldn’t be that viable unless they make the reward track give more gold to compensate. Right now mini-sets are 2000 gold each, which costs 6000 gold per year for F2P or $60 for the entire year, while an entire expansion requires about 8000 to 10000 to get most of the cards, and $80 for a good preorder deal.
And I think I have a pretty good idea of the new card type they were thinking of now, it’s probably quite hard to do in constructed due to the fact that most minion based removals can’t target a new card type, and that minions & spells are so aggressive that they’d be killed off immediately or very soon (My guess is that they are Hearthstone versions of MTG Planeswalkers, where it’s like a minion and you increase or decrease its health to use its abilities or something).

I’d welcome another full blown expansion rather than the mini-sets. I think it would also potentially be a gain for content creators since expansions offer such a great burst of content as opposed to the mini-sets.

He did at least acknowledge that doing so would mandate a reward revamp to accompany it.

If they’ve learned anything, it’s that HS players are a lot like WoW players. We WILL do the math and we WILL call out whether or not something is kosher.

The massive roastings that they took over the reward track launch established that quite well.

i do prefer the minisets, execution is kinda lacking, but shaking the meta 6times a year is preferable to 4 times for me.

i rather keep the" get all the card for 2000 gold" mini set s

This is the better deal.

Probably why some loving investor is pushing to increase the gambling regular sets. May that person die a terrible death very soon.

Edit: Wtf I had not edited this before this comment, and instead it removed the quote I put at the start and put I edited it instead.

Edit 2: putting boreas’ quote at the top again

If you quote an entire post, but you’re the very next post after it, the system cuts out your quote since it’s deemed not needed or something.

Just trim off a period or something and it won’t do it.

All i got from this is that mini sets are too f2p friendly lets make another expansion to milk those suckers.

Also he is putting in the hours in Elden Ring i dont blame him i just wish i had as much time as him.
Sadly i seem to have a heavier work load than him (yes im salty ).

I totally get that and like that too, I just feel that the mini-sets are (so far) kind of lackluster. But they could fix that with better rollouts or something.

Right there with ya on elden ring I have gotten a total of six hours in ok that game

What do we expect from a company that gives us “announcements of delayed announcements announcements”?

Main Hearthstone developer literally seems to do nothing but play Elden Ring all day, apparently until 4:45 in the morning. And then says he has no time for Hearthstone Q&A because he has a baby. You can’t make this stuff up.

Wasn’t there an ex-Blizzard employee who said that developers at Blizzard did nothing but play other games during the whole Blizzard drama a few months ago.

Main Hearthstone developer last 2 weeks:

Elden Ring: 4th trip commence

Elden Ring → Nerfs Sword of Night and Flame

Me → “YOU DON’T HAVE THE RIGHT, O, YOU DON’T HAVE THE RIGHT!!!”

interesting to me to see nerfs to stuff that seemed good but not buggy good, is this normal for a FROM game?

I’ve legitimately just had like 6 items in my potion slot that I scroll through every time I use anything.

I feel the need to complete everything in one space before moving on to the next… Elden Ring is perfect for me in that respect

I’m so mad that I’ve been using my potion slot to scroll to my ashes and torch the last 130 hours.

okay so when is elden ring 2?

Elden Ring Update: Beat the game.

Hmm stayed up til 4:45 playing Elden ring hmmmmmm

> reasons why I haven’t done an AMA recently:
> I have a wee young baby
> taking care of wee young baby hard work

Yeah funny enouth it seems there was no cut in his personal time so either he has a time machine or that time is coming out of Hearthstone.

Anyway he just got promoted so his new job whatever that might be might allow him to pursue other things like play Elden Ring.
Like i said before i dont blame him i just wish i had that time when im about to drop a big project.

Ehh. You must not have engaged much with Mercenaries then. Everyone has done the math on Mercs & it’s pretty easy to see that spending money on packs is something that actively harms those who play the most because they DON’T receive any tangible value most of the time if they’ve maxed out enough mercenaries.

I have pretty tremendous concerns about the degree to which they’ll actually compensate us for reducing the time allotted to each rewards track pass. Acknowledging that they SHOULD do something is pretty different from them actually doing it–we’ve been burned by Blizzard a lot with business practices.

Personally I don’t really want to see MORE sets; I want to see more changes to the existing card pool. I stopped playing constructed Hearthstone because of the card pool for the next year–it’s just too powerful in my opinion; the meta isn’t likely to massively shift unless they add in a whole lot of power creep.

You know damn well why they dont allow it, you (and myself) were a part of its implementation.

Or dont you remember the gigantic pyramid/nest of stupid we participated in early on in the switch to Discourse forums, old man?!?

Yes, we caused it!
This was their solution.

I would suspect it is to increase profits, so extra expansion=more expensive F2P game.

It is not the easiest to be F2P with 3 expansions and minisets, so adding extra expansion instead of 6k gold minisets… Dunno, that sounds costly for me.

Without more gold income this is stupid.
