Could we please aim for some sort of consistancy in dust cost per class?

Hello, I primarily play rogue, hunter and demon hunter because they only usually require 1-2 legendaries to make a deck and maybe a few epics, which allows me to actually afford these sorts of decks by dusting legendaries from classes I never really play, nor intend to (usually paladin or warlock). However, I am becoming pretty bored of the typical aggro sort of game plan and would like to play a new class such as priest, mage or warrior while still maintaining a competitively viable deck, yet nearly all the archetypes of these classes are very expensive due to the vast amount of legendaries necessary. Back when I used to play near the beginning of rise of shadows I noticed a similar trend, warrior was extremely expensive and effective (Dr Boom, Mad Genius) - however I was unable to obtain enough cards to even consider building bomb warrior despite playing every day.

I would like the ability to get legendary tokens from packs so you can assign yourself the class that you would like to play, rather than the game arbitrarily deciding what class you should play because you opened a random legendary for that class. If not, dust values should increase. I would be able to afford new and fun decks that would maintain my interest in the game, so when I open up a Rattlegore and realise I have no warrior cards to create a deck - I don’t get a massive downgrade in the form of getting 1 single epic.

I believe the free starter decks are a very good step in the right direction, as you can assign yourself a class out of your own free will and have control over what you will recieve, however packs are very poor as you will be randomly assigned a class based on probability rather than personal enjoyment.

Yes, it’s not easy. I have been playing for 3 years bought 6 pre orders, and I primarily play about 3-4 classes.

But if you dust today that’s a deck in the future that you’re not playing tomorrow. You have to force yourself to not dust Standard legal cards if you want to expand to another class because it’s impossible to tell if they will get support in the future. For example King Togwaggle from K&C was considered garbage, then Azalina came out in Witchwood and it became a huge success.

The random assignment of cards, in this case legendaries particularly, is very much so what influences further card pack sales, however.

How much dust do you feel is excessive? Even face decks rely on a legendary or two nowadays. I built a dragon priest deck with 4 legendaries and two epics and piloted it to legend last month, and two of the legendaries could be swapped out without too much loss. Total cost was about 7800 dust and over half the cards are commons. That’s standard Dust value nowadays for most decks. The only truly expensive decks are highlander decks, and that’s because they run so many extra legendaries.

I don’t like mtg arena because the back and forth nature makes it slow, but I do like how they handle crafting. There’s no dust. You get cards in every pack and then sometimes you get blank cards. I don’t remember what they’re called but if you have one for a rare you use it to craft whatever rare you want, etc.

If hearthstone did that then maybe you’d open a paladin legendary sometimes. But you’d also open a blank one sometimes, which you would then turn into a warlock one.

Imagine having rattlegore and bulkwark of azzinoth but can’t play any control warrior due to lack of all the other legendary cards :upside_down_face:

If payouts of cards were better, dusting wouldn’t be such a bad thing. Why does it take me 8 common cards to dust to create 1? What a horrible conversion that is.

A single pack costs around 1.40 USD. It averages out 100 dust. I am paying 1.4 cents per dust. It cost me a 1.12 USD worth of dust to craft two commons. What kind of BS is that? Decks cost around 4-5k. A single deck will cost you 50-60 USD worth of packs to make.

I’ve bought games that I paid 20-30 dollars for and lasted me for years. Don’t give me that “you have to pay the employees” BS because many successful titles can run several years on a 60 dollar title. Everything nowadays is greed.

This really made me think about the outrageous amount of money I have spent on Hearthstone, and I’ve more or less just begun playing. I kinda feel like a fool.

No shame in spending money on the game, you just have to know where the real value is. Packs are easily the worst, which is why I’ve only bought a couple of the cheapbundles (like the 10 dollar ones) and a few Adventure Wings when I started out. Rest are cosmetics. I’m not ashamed to admit spending around 40-50 dollars total in this game over the course of 4 1/2 years, but that’s what’s expected for myself when I have completed 99% of the daily quests I have for that entire consecutive time span. At over 22,000 games, 40 bucks is nothing.

But come on. 80 dollars a Pre-Order gets me 1, maybe 2 decks. Sure that’s fine. But 80 dollars on my Nintendo Switch gets me 5 years of entertainment plus any additional DLCs. These pack prices suck. We can all try and justify how the card game genre is meant to be a money sink, but the amount of resources going into making the game is likely not that much higher than games like other triple AAA titles. Hearthstone is probably one of the most profitable titles in Blizzard’s pocketbook.

If I’m being honest, I must’ve spent at least around $200 total. It’s so easy to just go to the shop, and one-tap buy using my fingerprint on my phone. I don’t see my bank account going down $20. I have to admit partly the gambling aspect drew me in, too. I have a very addictive personality. I’ve managed to stop, thankfully. I have all of the cards I can want, give or take one or two.

I spent around 500€, that’s over 550$ since 2013 closed beta, I do not regret it, but I haven’t spent a dime since 2018, I think, and I probably never will. The last thing I bought was a Sir Annoy-O pack. So, you are not the worst. There is someone even worse than me probably

LoR went that route and I do like it and I do agree on the arbitrary legendaries locking people into classes early expansion, but yeah they don’t control the meta in the way you’d think so short of that fix how else would you expect them to do it?

I’ve heard of players spending thousands. I still feel like a sucker, ya know? My self-control’s improved, partly because I have the cards I want probably. But I am no longer spending money and am now saving gold.

You play LoR? I’ve downloaded it on my phone but haven’t played yet. I am weary because (a) it’s new and so I am unsure if it’ll have longevity. Moreover, (b) financially I’m unsure if it requires that I spend a lot of money.

Any idea?

I stopped only because the diversity of cards was really low from what I’m used to in HS but a lot of the mechanics seemed to be more interesting. I mean I get it was new, but I poke my head in every now and then so can’t really call it playing. I know the ins and outs at least though.

I can say it’s more f2p friendly. The weel I started I actually ran their version of arena to a full run which I’m not sure if that’s common or not, but they do give more free stuff than hs.

Gambling is just one way they exploit their players.

For me, I know several things about myself where that kind of sets the boundaries in buying packs. For one, I hate losing. Everyone who gambles will likely lose something, I can’t stand it when I lose anything. So it’s a self barrier that keeps me from buying more packs with real money.

Second, I’ve got a weak self restraint. The best way for me to not get hooked into something is to not start it. Anything addictive is a red flag knowing that if I start it and get latched, it’s very hard to turn back. No trying Cigarettes, Gambling, or Drugs here cause I know for myself it’s no way out if I go down a destructive path.

It’s bad enough I spend hours on this game when I should be doing other things, but I also know it could be a lot worse…

God back when I had more disposable income I would waste so much money on in app purchases on games. I wish I had not done that.

Google Opinion Rewards on the Android is the big thing that keeps me from spending a dime out of my actual bank account in terms of mobile games. Since those are all survey based credits that are linked to the Play Store, whatever I buy in my games are first gone through there, and nothing actually is through my bank account. It’s sustainable, and I can buy some nice things in games without ever spending a dime (sometimes I do it here too if the deal is good enough).

I love mobile games myself, and I’ll spend hours playing some high end ones like Call of Duty Mobile. Some of those games are even worse when it comes to monetization. They can be fun and pretty lenient for 99% of the free content, but they’ll have those whales who drop a couple hundred on some crates. Just stick with the Battle Passes which cost like 5 bucks and renew themselves just as long as you play the game.
