Control/Midrange decks aren't always the most skillful

A lot of people praise Midrange/Control as the purest, most skillful way of playing since they usually use most of the 10 Mana in the game and doesn’t go face early.
But no, some examples of these archetypes are miles away from being the most skillful deck in the game.
Resurrection Priest, for example, is a Control deck that focuses on these few objectives:
-Clear the board
-Cast powerful spells
-Repeat and resurrect minions with powerful spells to finish the game
Now, there isn’t too much beyond basic skill (such as trading) involved. You just have to play minions, heal up and almost only hit face when you are 100% sure the minion attacking will survive. Clearing the board every few turns isn’t very skillful either, you just have to cast those spells when the minions your opponents play can potentially kill you.
Libram Paladin, is a Midrange decks that focus on reducing the cost of specific Libram cards that are powerful when played a turn or two sooner on curve.
The main objectives are:
-Play early minions and spells that reduces the cost of Librams
-Buff your minions and weaken enemies with those cards
-Return them to your hand with the Legendary 7-drop (optional), and spam them until your win.
-Use Alura to cheat out spells you wouldn’t usually play on curve (optional)
-Use a Paladin only deck to use Pure cards for value (optional)
Although a bit more complicated, if you know when to play each card and what it does, the strategy is pretty linear beyond the absolute basics unless you’re adding extra stuff to it. The only difference is card cost and main strategy, otherwise there aren’t anything too specific.
These two are definitely not the decks that require most skill compared to the others, they’re just as linear as Aggro expect for the time the games last.

Skill is mostly outside the scope of a game like this. Sure, such a thing as a misplay exists, but there is no high ceiling anywhere.

As in a lot of things people do in everyday living, thinking of yourself as “very excellent” at this is a trope reserved for the fiction consumed by young boys.

It is baffling that adults talk so much about something that is largely nonsense, and make notions of it principally to denigrate each other. These people are stuck in a mental adolescence. Avoid perseverating upon it.

Much like this thread, my post serves no purpose.

being skilled at a video game is relative. but pretending it makes you better than someone else is just pure lulz. there was some guy on the wow forums that said his in game accomplishments should be viewed the same way someone’s irl accomplishments are. was the most cringe thing i’d ever seen. imagine thinking getting legendary parses in an old game should be considered on the same level as a surgeon who saves lives all day.

When you are talking about skill in a game you have to take into an account just that game and do not compare to it other games, even if these games would be similar.

I am usualy frowning when somebody mention skill and HS in same sentence but thats because I am comparing these “skills” to other games. And thats wrong.

There are indeed decks that are more complex and complicated compared to other decks if we are talking only from the HS pov.

Its like if I told you to take a pencil and draw a line. And then I would tell you to draw a triagle. The second task would be way more skill testing than the first one.
Sure, talking about these tasks to be skillful is laughable but in a specific situation where drawing a triangle would be the most complicated thing you can do it would show you the skill difference. Somebody would be able to only draw a dot, some would even draw a line a top dogs would manage to blow your mind with a triangle!

What’s skillful is whatever the OP of a whine thread is playing, and what is unskillful is whatever they just lost to.

This may be true, but not for the reason you may be thinking.

The game, at least more so in recent metas, has more bombs that cannot be reasonably answered. Part of it is power creep making bombs stronger when they’re dropped, but the nature of many bombs also changed from being one time threats that could backfire on you if they get answered (say, you drop a rag, it gets hard removed), to something that can be done repeatedly or at least a few times (you killed the pally’s first libram of hope? He has more in stock), so even if you answer a bomb the first time, you may not next time.

This has led to game balance less about answering threats (which feels skillful) to just presenting near unanswerable bombs of your own. When someone wins, it’s likely because their bombs happen to be bigger/landed faster, and to the loser the bomb felt like unskilled BS.

RNG, particularly random resource generation, amplifies this feeling as somebody could have gotten that bomb randomly.

Then add to the fact that deck match ups matter a lot. if you run into a bad matchup, whatever the other guy has will seem totally unskilled BS since they beat you so easily.

In other words or TLDR: the game is making it so to the loser of a match feels like they lost to unskilled BS.

Hopefully rotation will reset things, and maybe just maybe they shift the balance paradigm away from bombs.

You seem to be expert at this, so I will take your word on it.

There are people who can make a coin-toss and get the same result every time, through practice.
And yet, for most people it seems like a game of pure chance.

I personally find combo decks to be the hardest to play. Control and midrange decks aren’t particularly hard if you know what you’re doing.

He’s an expert alright. Just ask him.

Flagkiller aka riddler.

Accusation, witch hunting, and assuming user identity is a violation of CoC. I’m in no way associated with users you mentioned. Millions of people in the world have consensus on a wide variety of topics, I’m no exception. You’d call everyone alts of the same account if they agreed with each other.

169 posts and don’t deny knowing who that is? Nice edit.

Let’s face it, I have had thousands of posts deleted, hundreds of threads erased and no perm? Why?

I walk the line I know but srs, you are afraid of me biizz. There is no other explanation. Maybe I walk the line just enough, lmfao

LOL saw you post a couple of days ago about having posts removed, while (at that time anyway, not sure now CBF’d checking) your “Tickatus” thread remained untouched.

This is what happens with self-policing.

Odd that? I made a flagrantly term violating thread that still stands but a dozen of my posts in a thread questioning blizz recently got deleted

Look it up. I have a thread clearly violating terms that stands but I have recently had over a dozen posts deleted in the thread questioning how expensive this game is.

It’s a joke.

I wouldnt even say its odd since the community started moderating the forums TBH.

There are no active mods, only personnel, likely located on the subcontinent, waiting for alerts from more than 3 members of the forum community to pop up on their screen.

Yes, yes it is. You will get no argument from me on that.

The last dozen posts deleted showed up as blizz not community. I do get censored when a select few get offended but what I am talking about is straight blizz

They only act when a post/thread is flagged enough to get buried these days. They arent active here, at all. Just waiting for the alert that 4 or more people have flagged a post before they do anything.
