Control Warlock is Underrated

Climbed to Legend today on my EU account with 23-2 on Control Warlock.

The climb up to low Diamond I had used a mixture of Thaddius and Curse Warlock (mainly curse) and some games with Pure Paladin and Control Priest.

I don’t play aggro/tempo decks often so I can’t attest to the strength of things like Hunter and Rogue on the ladder, but what I can say is that Control Warlock absolutely obliterates most decks in the most consistent way on the climb to legend (IF you know what to do and you know your mulligans and tap when you need to tap)

If you’re thinking about playing it, keep in mind that the “most played” deck on HSReplay definitely isn’t the best deck to play. It has no Finley, and in my opinion, Finley increases winrate significantly.

Had absolutely no issue beating Hunters, Rogues, other warlocks and DKs, the only deck I’ve seemed to struggle against occasionally is Priest, which if you look at matchups, we should be beating, I’ve gotten better at it but I still find the matchup as a coin flip.

If anyone is interested in playing the deck, wants a code, needs some advice etc, happy to help.

Surprise surprise, he’s playing the underdog Warlock that absolutely nobody is playing, and went on a win streak. What an unexpected turn of events since it’s such an unpopular and low win rate class.

Control warlock decks are pretty entertaining. I play both aggro and control but must say control is a nice change of pace. Especially with Sargeras late game.

You OK my friend? Haha.

Just my usual bouts of sarcasm.

Control Warlock is 100% underplayed for how good it is. Everyone is moaning about Thaddius and it’s inferior in my opinion, that’s my take.

At top legend it’s one of the most played decks for the last week and a half.

I haven’t subbed to HSReplay again to see the stats at legend and high legend but it’s 100% under represented on lower ladder where the majority of player sit and it shouldn’t be. That’s the whole point of the post.

I do appreciate good sarcasm

It wasn’t good though

It’s a high dust deck so probably a heavy investment for lower rank players.

It’s not more expensive than Thaddius though and there are plenty of people playing that at gutter tiers?

It was pretty decent. I know a thing or two about sarcastic posts haha.

Oh neither have I. I just PLAY at high legend enough to see 9/10 of my games are vs control warlock. Over, and over, and over, and over again. It’s literally the highest play rate deck and it’s basically just mirror matches.

If you’re asking why lower ladder doesn’t see control lock much is because they are all up here mirror matching eachother all day.

Control Warlock is the best deck in the game until you get to Top 1k Legend…underrated? What…? And Chad Warlock is the 2nd best in the same range, by a tiny margin…

It shows as a mid tier 2 deck overall on HSReplay.

Played far less than Thaddius.

I’ve had about 3 mirror matches on the climb to legend, 99% of locks I faced were Thaddius.

It’s just surprising that more people aren’t playing it before high legend.

Maybe people find it boring and slow?

Seriously doubt ANY warlock is underrated. Its the OP class.

Strangely, my Boneshredder Plague DK has been doing extremely well against Control Warlock (and the Curse variant). I guess because they like to draw so much, and Sylvanas + Primus answer the two key threats (Sargeras and Darkhan). Chained Guardians and whatever you discover can bridge the gap on the Forge of Wills turns.

I’ve been seeing less and less of the Forge of Wills list, and more and more Curse. I guess people like the fact that the deck practically pilots itself while you feel big-brain about playing a control deck.
