Coin Problem: Going Second

What a death sentence it is to go second. You essentially play behind all game with ONE turn that can be used to not even be ahead but EVEN.

I’ve been playing for a decade and i’ve never once agreed with anything negative that was said about going second. I reckon there used to be some synergy with the coin being a spell and some classes using it to an advantage but i really dont see the fairness in it anymore. But where in the sin itself do you even start when trying to “fix” going second? Maybe start the game off with a genuine rock paper scissors type thing like Pro Gamer card? Winner chooses coin or first idk

Especially with current expac and all new age hearth cards, its such a disadvantage

Its suuuuchhhh a drag to play out a game with the herald mechanic for example. I use my turn 5 herald after they’ve already done it on their turn 5. I need to see a flowchart and some math to know how its fair for 2nd player to have the coin as their only compensation

The second player also get an extra card in their starting hand?

And have players boast how they’re better at rock paper scissors, but the game is still a lottery?

No thanks

It is always a problem with the lower power hearthstone in the first expansion each year. The game plays more like the original version with few playing from behind cards. As they add more rush and powerful effects each expansion the gap will (probably) narrow.

But maybe not. Blizzard seems to now accept that the only way to keep greedy decks in check is to allow for snowballing. Otherwise players just want the biggest, slowest, greediest decks in existence - why would they want to include a bunch of lower power, low cost cards if they don’t offer snowballing or persistent (deferred) power building?
