As someone who played during vanilla, I can say there were a lot of problems during that time. This was hidden to the much larger majority due to an inexperienced player base, low amount of F2P resources and there not being HSReplay or other such entities gathering large amounts of data. The part that was fun about vanilla was that inexperienced and resource poor players wouldn’t play meta decks. Even at rank 15 only about half of your games were against meta decks. This won’t be the case today. And the reason why vanilla meta was so obnoxious was that all high tier meta decks were either super aggro or combo decks.
I would much rather play a few classic arena runs, although that would also get boring fast due to the same reasons and limited pool of cards. All in all, I know that I sound like an “You think you do, but you don’t”-guy, but all I have heard people talk about vanilla Hearthstone have been something like: “Do you remember when people used to play Yeti and Ogre in meta”, while in reality ogre wasn’t meta anywhere and yeti was only meta on some variants of ramp druid, which was pretty low on the tier list and druid had the much more unbearable combo deck.

Sorry, can’t hear you over my rose-tinted glasses. But you are correct. Can’t wait to pull out a deck I couldn’t afford back in the day.
conisdering one of the “meta” decks back then was called wallet warrior just because it was so expensive for the majority of players to have you are not alone^^.
ha;f the fun was exactly that you were making decks with what you have, the philosophy nowadays is much different imo

If I remember correctly the meta was like
Top tier:
Miracle rogue
Face hunter
Slow face hunter (aka “midrange”)
Zoolock
Mid-tier:
Control warrior
Fon-savage roar druid
I can’t remember if handlock existed in vanilla or if it was later expansions (I think it did)
Midrange shaman
Bottom tier
Priest, Mage and Paladin, they had no defining deck, just a sorted chunck of good curve cards

mage had freezemage.
freeze and ignore the board, sometimes drop a doomsayer along the way. Use iceblock and Alex/fireball/icelance the face while they cant kill you.

Handlock was indeed top tier it had giants, both molten and mountain ones as well as I kid you not, ancient watchers to taunt with defender of argus, because ironbeack owl was 2 mana and in every deck, some combo variants runned leroy and zero mana soul fires baby
Handlock is another deck I can’t wait to play again. Possibly my favourite deck ever in this game.
I can’t believe how wrong I was. Classic mode ended up being the best format by blizzard ever and then they just removed it for such a great mode that Twist was /s.
Holy molly, way to trigger my nostalgia
