Too few classes have their own keywords.
Secret, Twinspell might be unique for some classes, but only three classes have their own keyword: Rogue, Shaman and DH (Combo, Overload, Outcast) I felt left out sometimes when I play other classes which don’t have special keywords.
And I believe each class at least have to have one keyword for its identity, DH for card placement management in hand, Shaman for using Mana Crystals before the next turn, Rogue for card combinations, these are all great and I believe they should have one of each class to make the classes unique and special.
Edit: I forget to include Druid sorry for the mistake
Well, I think part of the reason is because all classes have their own flavor that doesn’t necessarily come out in keywords. For example, Warriors and Druids have cards that give them armor, Paladins have librams, Warlocks hurt themselves for high powered abilities… Hunters just go face.
I feel like historically the game has done a pretty good job of getting each classes’ flavor done correctly. Well, until things like Zephrys and Puzzle Box allow intermingling of class abilities.
We’ve gone figuratively from vanilla WoW to modern WoW.
You should try Legends of Runeterra - Stun for Ionia, Deep for Bilgewater, Freeze for Freijord, etc.
You might like it! Not sure if you’ve heard of it.
Well played.
We have a Total Noob in chat.
I’ve always thought the reverse, I wouldn’t mind if keywords got opened up to more classes. Overload could make a lot of neutral vanilla-ish minions more interesting, and Choose One as well as Choose One (secretly) could be a fun basis for a slew of neutrals.
Some classes like Warrior don’t even have a specific keyword to them, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have a distinct flavor via their armor and weapons.
STOP aiming at my comments and always being sarcastic please, this is a formal thread for HS instead of a place to say ironic words.
What? You said you wanted class specific keywords, I offered a solution. No sarcasm at all.
In all seriousness, I agree that keywords for classes give unique identities and it would be nice to have each class with a set of keywords that are inherent to that class only. I think as the card pool gets bigger that gets tougher to keep consistent though.
A sarcastic solution after all, I am not one of those who always forget. I want to see more class mechanics instead of just switching to another game.
*who is the one who said someone works for Riot? That’s not true
You need a sense of humor my man.
Yes, but I want good replies before this whole thing turns funny though, I want suggestions and solutions.
You mean like ARMOR for Warrior or DIVINE SHIELD for Paladin or FREEZE for Mage?
And I gave a serious, solid response in my second post.
OK, please don’t start it funny when you reply…
Naw son I’ll post how I want thank you.
Your response is unclear, what does it mean?
Haha the irony of Cardmaster saying someone else is unclear.
It means, don’t tell me how to post. I will post how I want…son.
Paladin might not have an “official” keyword, but they’ve had multiple cards that generate or interact with Silver Hand Recruits, which are solely accessible to Paladin. They’ve also received and entire mechanic around Librams.
Pretty sure Warlock is the only clas that uses the Discard effect with its cards.
While I do love me some keywords, I think class identity is pretty well fleshed out.
something something LoR.
As others have pointed out, there are a couple other keyword-like effects that are specific to certain classes: Druids have Choose One (which is even put in bold face like a Keyword) and Warlocks have discard.
And even beyond that, some keywords are closely tied to particular classes, even if sometimes other classes receive a card with it or it appears on some Neutrals. For example:
Of the 66 cards with Divine Shield in the game, 32 are Paladin cards; the only other class to receive one is Shaman which has 1 (Al’Akir); and the others are Neutral.
Likewise, out of 34 Freeze cards in the game, 18 are Mage cards, Shaman has 8, and the rest are Neutral.
Combine that with the mechanics that are only available to a subset of classes — e.g. Weapons, Secrets, etc. — and I don’t think that you really need to invent an exclusive Keyword for every class to make them feel distinct and thematic.
