Card generation is absolutely out of control. I just played a mage who must have played 80 cards by the end of the game. I’m just trying to play a 10-15 minute game. I’m really not here for the 30 to 40 minute crap
Sometimes less is more, devs. People who get paid to do this for a living shouldn’t have to be told that
Not really what I’m saying but thanks for missing my point. Here it is again just to be clear:
Card generation is out of control in HS. A little bit is one thing. Throwing your opponent a curveball once in awhile to keep them on their toes is good for the game
Being able to generate an extra 40 or 50 cards over the course of a match is nuts
I have to agree with you. I played a mage in standard yesterday and more than half of the cards they played in the game were discovered. Besides the fact that they shouldn’t play five copies of anything, the time it takes to just sit there and discover and discover and discover on their turns is terrible game play.
Solid alibi is a BS card. I played a game vs a mage and he would just solid alibi every single turn (was still an easy win because I was at 80 armor and 22 hp with my druid but still bs). The game is better with mage, priest and paladin being trash (priest main in the past).
Then, by all means, if that’s your thing, go play those and don’t come back.
The rest of us will be happy not to watch our opponents’ discover a new deck every game because it’s not good game play.
I’m happy you have other options, go now and enjoy them.
It was dialed back for a while and then they went back into it because they lack the ideas to make actual new cards. Instead, they recycle old cards and power creep them with discover or rush or rush AND discover.
Quest Shaman lackeys back in the day were generating 40 cards that weren’t in their deck. I’ve never seen another deck ever generate as many cards as that one does in standard and that was years ago. They played each lackey like 8 times. They didn’t run Hex in the deck yet would play it a solid 5 times a game.
But let’s face it. Discover is probably the funnest keyword. I believe most players enjoy playing Discover cards and it’s why it has become a staple keyword in Hearthstone now. It’s exciting to play. Are there games where it happens too much? Arguably yes. But if you look at the top decks, Discover isn’t as frequent.
none of these decks are discovering tons and tons of cards. The decks that do discover tons and tons of cards (Mage / Control Priest) aren’t top decks, they’re just mid level decks.
I am not angry about anything. If anything, I’m laughing.
No, this thread is about people who disagree with you sharing their opinions on the game, which you apparently don’t think they should because you always come make ignorant replies that ignore 3/4 of what someone says to make some tired, half correct point with condescension and smug belief in your superiority.
The reality is most of us are convinced you work in a circus and carpool with 20 of your buddies.
Nope, not at all. This is a hard difference that isn’t going to be easily resolved, and it’s really about preferences more than balance or game issues.
I think you can’t win without some, but that doesn’t mean it’s fun or interesting or what “most people” want.
I can’t argue it isn’t staple, but I’m not sure “fun” is the why. I think different players want radically different things.
But if we are totally telling the truth, discover is also the most frustrating thing in this entire game.
Tell me something that make you feel less player agency than your opponent winning a game because they pulled the proverbial rabbit out of the hat? Why did we do all this just for you to pull an “I win” card out of thin air?
Which makes you wonder if most players do or don’t want it, idk. Never seen a real poll. The responses here may not be typical.
Statistically in what way?
Win wise? Maybe not.
But what if 1/4 or 1/2 of the games played involves those decks and that’s just not fun when you sit down to play the game? Isn’t that, statistically, a problem?
That was before the core set, though. When there was an extreme variability to random discover effects. Shaman was either generating more lackeys, or they were getting weird random spells like Totemic Might and random dragons.
going by your post telling me to stop playing the decks i like and go play something else the thread is about dictating what other players are allowed to play or not
the game has consistent less card generation reliant deck to choose from
i have no problems with people playing those decks …unlike you who told me to play something else becuase i like the decks you dont
The issue really does come down to the volume of discover. And the stats on the cards that discover cards.
The thief mechanic especially is so frustrating because it’s guaranteed to be a good card, and now like every single priest thief card is just good. A 1 mana 1/2 (cycle), a 3 mana +1, a 2 mana 3/2.
Literally just playing on curve threats while maintaining a hand.
Like yes, discovering cards is fun. Having good minions that discover cards is fun. An 8/8 charge minion for 5 would also be fun for the person playing it, doesn’t mean it should be in the game. I should be able to run my opponent out of cards by pressuring them.
-Limit the amount of discovers a player can have per game
-Have some form of diminishing returns, such as increasing cost on a card
-Adjust a cards text when it is Discovered. Mage is the flavor of this post, so, for example, Solid Alibi would be changed to “2” dmg from 1, then “3” and so on and so forth
-Make it so Discovered cards must be played within a certain number of turns
I’m sure there’s some middle ground, and I think it’s reasonable for an old mechanic to get some sort of rehash while it’s part of a very much power crept meta
