While achievements do work and got a bunch of them just by playing some solo missions, it seems to me quests are not progressing! Is this a bug, or does quests work only in pvp?

Neither quests nor achievements should be able to be completed in single player mode, unless the achievement is tied to that specific single player content. What achievements did you get?

Quests generally only advance during ranked games.
But you can also use Battlegrounds and the Tavern Brawl to complete them.

I hoped solo would be more accessible, nevertheless thank you all for the feedback.
I started with playing almost exclusively Solo Adventures. I was afraid ranked players would be much better than I was.
When I finally did play some Standard I realized at lower ranks I could hold my own. Since I started playing Standard, I’ve gotten Diamond 5 without searching for the best meta.
Wanted to say all that to tell you that if you are afraid of Standard I don’t think you should be. I would do the minimum to complete the quests. You might have some fun!
Of course Solo Adventures are the best and I can’t wait for more to come out!
Many of the dailies are doable in Mercs.
