I remember quitting Hearthstone the last time they introduced buddies. I am not a fan personally, but I feel with the power creep inherent in the game mode, this time it has completely removed mid game strategy. By turn 6 it seems like you are either dealing or taking 15 damage per turn and need to be close to your final build as pivoting to a late game strategy is no longer an option. Maybe it’s just my MMR band though, I’m hovering just above 7000 lately. Anyone else notice this lack of a mid game since the return of buddies?
Idk about MMR, because I pretend it doesn’t exist so I can play with randos and have actual fun. >.>
But buddies absolutely does make the mode more fun. Yes, the highrolls are steeper, but so are the comebacks. Quite often I get trash and losses for 4-5 turns, but then I get to that threshold where my buddy starts putting in work, and bam, I win with 1-2 hp.
In the buddy meta your hero choice is the most important thing to get right. You need to know which buddies combine best with the tribes in lobby. If you are playing a hero with access to other buddies you need to know which ones work best together and then with the tribes.
It’s not nearly as easy to play in the buddy meta as it is during the quest meta. Sadly it’s very hard to climb high in rating with only two hero choices as well. You really need all 4 choices to get the best chance at a solid hero.
Mid game switching is still a thing but you have to know exactly when to do it because everyone is basically playing for tier 4 asap with a few exceptions.
