Opponent had 10 cards in hand, I had Freezing Trap (Hunter secret). They attacked with their creature and it went back to their hand, was destroyed, and then it’s deathrattle triggered… this should NOT be how it works…
Well, it was in play, and it died ¯_༼ •́ ͜ʖ •̀ ༽_/¯
That’s exactly how it should work, actually.
The minion can’t return to hand, and instead dies as it has no where to go. Deathrattle triggers on death…so yeah.
It didn’t die, it was returned to his hand… what part of that don’t you understand? It’s no longer “in play” once it’s returned to his hand.
It never made it to his hand, it died from the board
It never went to his hand. Hand max is 10. He can’t have 11 cards in hand. It had no where to go and it died.
How often are you really going to have to deal with that. You deserve a Snickers, and a warm bubble bath. We all reach our tolerance points
Wonder what it was, mechano egg?
Mechanical whelpling?
Mechathun?
Working as intended. Nothing to see here.
The card tried to return to his hand but there wasn’t room.
Board>no room in hand>back to board>death
So why doesn’t deathrattle trigger when you draw too many? It “died” as you say…
And yes, it DID go to their hand, and then was destroyed. Just like if you draw when you already have 10 cards in hand. It’s a f’n stupid interaction.
Because he played it before it died, he didn’t draw it, it was on the board
No, that card is “burned” which means it never saw play…not in the hand nor board state. It’s not even in the graveyard pool. Burned cards are gone forever.
No, it never went to the hand. It tried to go to the hand, saw there was no room, then died instead.
I still wanna know what this minion was. Part of me hopes it was a mecharoo
Man I loathe freezing trap, in fact hunter secrets in general are a nightmare, but particularly happy to see freezing trap fail, will have to remember this interaction.
How HS is programmed there are four different ‘zones:’
- Deck
- Hand
- Board
Then the kind of fake zone of “died while on board”
If a card cannot move to a zone the game treats it as being removed:
Removed from deck = Burned (essentially Exiled). A few cards ‘burn’ by design
Removed from board = Died on board and will trigger all death interactions including moving to the psuedo graveyard.
someone never suffered deathrattle trigger from vanish?. Its the same logic, if its played, it register as in play. If it died via means of not being able to return to hand then its deathrattle that suppose to trigger on its death will happen.
This is the same thing that happens when a rogue plays sap or vanish and you get more minions returned to your hand than you have room for. IE, the minions die. Move alone people, nothing new to see here.
TC “deathrattles shouldnt activate when destroyed !”
whaaaat ?
returning to hand minion while having a full hand is basically assassinate effect. that is long been known.
