I get that the devs are trying to make kind of a mock duels with twost and everything but its not the same the rush of about to clear a gauntlet or being able to pick and decide your own path between matches there is really little else that can trigger the endorphins in the same manner and everything else seems lack luster its all starting to seem dull and battlegrounds is basically chalked up to if you dont pick the perfect start and build from turn 1 you stand no chance

Would you be fine if they brought it back with only a pay to play mode?

The mode was scrapped because they needed to update it every new set and spend time on a mode(bug fixes and what little maintenance it had) they weren’t making money from.
Well that explains why dusty ol Mercs is still in the game despite only 2 people ever playing it regularly anymore. Seems like they’ve opted to do the weird n lazy “quiet quitting” thing like some other millennials n zoomers do.
by removing duels they didn’t remove anything you spent money on, by removing mercenaries they would be removing something someone spent money on(may have legal liability).
Also Mercenaries requires no Upkeep/maintenance at this point so by it existing someone might still spent money/gold on it. I recall a very sad to be poster asking about when additional content coming to the mode this year and I’ve seen 2 people reporting bug reports on the "Bonus Stats* for the boss run mode not working in normal PVE(as they didn’t know it was boss run exclusive) this year.

This isn’t exactly the case - your cards you spent money on for duels are still usable in other formats, but merc cards are game specific.
this would not work, I don’t think anyone would pay 1k gold for a fairly unbalanced mode.
duels was only at all popular because there was a casual mode where people could expieriment.
I was thinking more like arena sonce the brawl imo is to overpriced and i never pay for it but arena i occasionally pay for as much as i despise it just to break the monotonous gamemodes and i would have no issue with a coin/ticket requirement i mean my game pass usually always hits lvl 400 so i have extra coin to spare so they would be getting mo ey from me one way or another gotta love gaming addiction am i right
I used to only play heroic mode anyway, so would definitely be happy if they were to just bring that back. I agree with the OP, everything else is dull in comparison.
Pretty sure it was the only other method of farming rares/packs/dust/gold etc aside from climbing the ladder in the standard/wild/twist modes. and if you were of a certain high tier collection it was almost always a guarantee to break even or come out ahead of the 100G it cost to run a heroic duels run. and of course casual version didnt yield rewards but at least incentivized buying packs or whatever in order to craft the missing cards of your duels deck.
But yeah if it wasnt yielding many purchases with IRL money to play in then I get why it was shut down. I would love for it to return but I fear it would only be allowed to enter by paying in runestones.
