Are there bots in BGs?
I’m not sure but I think there are.
Recently a lobby I was in had a player at the top, that while everybody else was on tier 4 or 5, this player was on 6. That’s completely normal but what I found unlikely was the board of tripled tier 5 and 6 mechs, ALL WITH WINDFURY OR REBORN. 5 mechs with reborn, two Foe Reapers with windfury.
The player was using murloc Holmes and the quest was play a minion, give others of the type 1/1.
So to give each mech reborn or windfury, that means that the player found 6 mecha jaraxxus, or am I missing something? Beasts weren’t in the lobby and the mechs with reborn were all base mechs, not amalgams.
I found this to be economically impossible and highly unlikely to have found so many tier 6 minions. The player easily took me out in one hit in the finals. Their board state seemed to have developed very quickly.
Wondering how on earth they would have done this, I tried adding the player after the game, to ask. Their user name was followed by endless numbers, not the normal 4 or 5 digit battle tag numbers. It must have been 20 digits, mostly repeating 3 and 4. Like this

Anyway, I’m not sure what to think, but I do believe there is a level of cheating and/or hitting in BGs.
Cheez, the hallmark of bots is bad gameplay, not good gameplay.

I completely agree with you and yet this experience continues to boggle my mind. The gameplay would have been a bit too good or too lucky in my opinion. The user number was also a bit strange so that’s why I’m genuinely curious what others think.
You assume they are programmed that way, bots can play well. Just depends on what Blizzard wants them to do. But most likely it was just a player highrolling, I mean thats the only way to win BGs.
It’s not a bot and yes you can high roll the hell out of the current meta. Case in point i was playing ETC(yes this hero needs their HP to cost 4 it’s busted at 3). I went on three into Galkrond buddy then another Galk buddy then another for a golden buddy into a board of 4 drops changed into 6 drops that were two summoners and two Death Whispers. Two turns later i got two Splitters and Reno’s buddy and that was basically the end of the lobby. They never had a chance from that point which was turn 8. There’s basically no way to even compete with that since it’s virtually scam proof and i out scaled the whole lobby on turn 8. My quest gave me Bassgill and double procs so i made a golden bassgill and held 4 minions in hand. After you got through all the undead there were still 4 more to get through if you managed it
It just happens sometimes.

Would there have been any question if this person was at the bottom of the lobby? Or is it just the players who are doing better than you?
Cheez is a good BG player so he’s not saying this only because someone is doing better.
We see a LOT of things where we question how it’s even possible. People at Tier 6 in turn 7 or just wacky high rolls.
Now, I don’t think there’s cheating because I think cheating server side games is near impossible. I think some people high roll so hard that it’s puzzling how they do it. I don’t think bots are doing it. I think we just want to know HOW these things are possible. I wish we had replays to show how it’s done so we can learn.

You’re probably right
It’s been a day of conspiracy theories, so my mind was already there. Plus, they mentioned they believed there is some cheating in BGs.
I also would love to know the circumstances. I can’t help but notice the turn they were on isn’t mentioned. Sometimes, depending on your build, you don’t want/need to go to six. Also, a lot of players make the mistake of going to slow with leveling and end up stuck at 5 the whole game. Lots of things to consider before bots are.
I think it’s because Cheez and I are playing at the 7+ level and we’re likely facing someone who is at a much higher mmr and they know how to do massive high rolls that seem statistically impossible to us.
For example, yesterday we faced a guy at around turn 9 that had a board with several 100+ stat minions. I don’t know how it’s statistically possible to get that. Everyone else in the lobby was just getting their minions to 20 or 30 stats.100/100 on several minions seemed impossible that early.
Then we’ll have people on tier 6 on turn 7 or something. We’re like “what!?”

Impossible? No. Improbable? Absolutely.
Im at 7500 and I know what you mean Schyla. The one guy in the lobby brewing that perfect storm to sweep the lobby.
And here’s the funny part: you know what he did because you have done it before, but you don’t remember it. I’ve sweeped lobbies into first place before numerous times. Its been done right back to me.
Yet I never question the legitimacy of it.

I wish this were true.
I’ve only had a few games ever where I’ve gotten a minion to above 100/100. Very few games…and it’s always been around turn 12+. I don’t know how people do it before turn 10.
I don’t play BGs to high roll. I have a completely different strategy. I shoot for 3rd or 4th place and only play for full board stat buffs mainly. Since I started doing this, I got over the 6000+ MMR floor where I was always stuck because I always tried to high roll because I thought that’s what everyone did. Now I shot to 7700 by just playing conservatively and shooting for 3rd / 4th. I won’t beat the high rolling player, I understand that. So I might get lucky and hit 2nd. Very rarely am I the high roll player with this strat. I only get first maybe once out of 30 games. And even then, I’m not high rolling a 100/100 minion on turn 9. People will have cleave minions that are 200/200. I might have my cleave guy at 40/40 by turn 15. I most certainly am not the lucky high roll player.
The only way I’ve ever gotten a massive minion is when I play Beasts and have Greybough or the Tentacle spawn hero because I know to aim for Slamma and Deathrattle beasts with Octosari. I know that it creates massive minions.
I really don’t feel like I’m that good at BGs to be honest. Despite being 7700 and according to stats at the 15% top of player base, I’m really NOT that good. I don’t know how people do the things they do to be 100% honest. I don’t know how to get my Elementals to be 300/300’s. I don’t know how to get Quilboars to 200/200. I’ve never done either of those things.
My biggest minion EVER is only a 2000/200 and the 2000 is because of the double/triple attack boost from a long time ago.
I’ve played thousands of BGs. I suck.

I play with 7k+ myself
What immediately comes to mind for what you described is the combo of Rivendare (or the Double Deathrattle Quest), Bran (or Double BC Quest), Rylak (golden/reborn), Parrot (Golden/reborn) and Felemental.
I don’t know if this comp is possible that early, let alone get off enough for the +100/+100’s, but it’s what comes to mind

Ok, just got out of a BG. It’s turn 9 and this guy has had 15 triples. I don’t know how that’s possible. I’ve never had 10 triples even when it got to turn 16+.
A month ago another guy had 30 triples on turn 13. I simply don’t understand

I’m very curious what their comp/hero/quest was

Faelin, deathrattles trigger an extra time. Turn 8 he was also Tier 6.
He was undead.
On turn 9 I saw he had 13 triples but he went up 2 more. I face him on Turn 11 and he had 4 Tier 6 minions (2 colossals and 2 of the Undead stat buff one) and reborn on all the undead with his reborns summoning the knight that gains stats.
I simply don’t see how it’s mathematically possible.

That’s nothing in the current game! I’m shocked.
My biggest is 5000/221184 and I was mad I didn’t get one more turn, lol, because I was going to get double that health multiple times over from my board.
This is sound play and how I approach four out of five games.
But I also see the highroll games and go for broke when the cards align.

Yeah…considering I’ve been playing since BG was released. Granted, I have pocket metas I decide I want to play. It doesn’t tell me how many games I’ve played total, but I have over 700 4th+ place finishes and 135 1st place finishes, so I’m somewhere in the 1k-2k number of games at least. And that’s my biggest minion. It’s sad. Some people beat that size within a month of playing.
I’m proof that you can play conservatively and get in the top 15% of the player base. I know very little about the combos if I’m being 100% honest.
I’ve never had a massive Elemental board, Dragon board, Quilboar board or Naga board. I absolutely suck with them. I know the basic strategy of Mechs/Undead/Beasts/Murlocs/Demons and very limited strategy on Pirates. I’m that bad. I just play for 3rd/4th and if the high roll happens I take it…if I miss it I might still hit 4th or 5th with very little loss.
I don’t try for an immediate high roll right out of the gate like it seems everyone else does. I’ve seen people with zero minion boards for the first 4 turns. Then they high roll and get first. I don’t have that kind of luck. Everyone else at the end of the game will have like 3-7 triples. I’ll be lucky if I have 2. I’ve had several games where I’m 2nd and I have 0 triples. Happens all the time.
I can probably get into the 8100 MMR range and get top 10% of player base simply by using this strategy. I just don’t see the combos others see with those tribes I’m not good at and any time I try it my board is laughable. I finally pick up a Tarecgosa on like turn 8 and try buffing him. By turn 12 it’s a 30/30 meanwhile the other Dragon player has their Tarecgosa at like 300/300 on turn 12. That stuff won’t happen for me.

I’m not a savant either, lol.
Some of the best comps are the less obvious ones like buffing the tavern elementals for most of the game but finishing the lobby with tavern eating demons is bigger stats than playing either alone.

I really wish they had a replay for the games. I want to see how other players do the things they do. I want to learn that. I don’t want to go watch a streamer play for days and days just to see how they do that 1 combo once a week. I want to see how the guy I just played against got to tier 6 on turn 7 and still be in first with a 5 fire win streak.

I kind of wish this as well because it’s really hard to teach a player if i cannot watch their misplays and in BG’s each misplay compounds onto the next until you are out in 8th place. Also a replay to show players sometimes you just don’t get anything and you take the L and move on to the next game.
