You don’t see facing the same 5 decks all the time as a problem of game design? I certainly see it as an issue- thus the title of this thread…
You see the same 5 decks all the time and you can’t make a deck to to work against ANY of them? You say you know what people are playing, so you should know the strategies involved, therfore build a deck or decks and play around those strategies.
All these people crying about “Only seeing the same X deck” really don’t want to have to adapt and rather be handed wins
Oh, so seeing the same five decks 80% of the time is totally fine with you? Man, you must have the most thrilling meal rotation—Monday spaghetti, Tuesday spaghetti, Wednesday… let me guess, spaghetti?
Meanwhile, over in World of Tanks, I actually see different tanks rolling around. There’s, you know, variety. I see the same 50 or so tanks and constantly learning new things about them.
But hey, maybe you’re right. Maybe us lowly casuals just don’t have the galaxy-brain to figure out the true counterplay. So please, enlighten us peasants: how exactly do we defend against a Protos Mage casually dropping two Colossuses back-to-back, nuking both our board and our face for 20+ damage per turn?
Oh, and let’s keep it spicy—explain it using classes that don’t get free armor handed to them on a silver platter. Take Warlock, for example. What’s the big brain strategy here? Because the only thing I see is desperately clinging to Starships for armor and healing, which basically forces you into one viable playstyle.
But nah, you’re totally right. It’s not bad design at all. I mean, as long as you’re the one who bought the mini-set, who cares, right?
If you 're talking about protoss mage, i think it’s too slow and it’s not competive, so very rarely see it on the ladder atm.
I wonder how you include it in the 5 most popular decks that you see it all the time?
I may should ask some pure mage main person here, like minami, if that deck 's consistent enough to be play in this meta.
No it’s not, just a timmy deck. Too slow for aggro, too weak to one tap control.
Super incosistent, either you play a spell mix or a stall mix. Simply, you are not generating enough protoss spells most of the time or dont have the time to do so.
And when its working its extremely unsatisfactory and disappointing aswell.
You’re moving the goalposts now. Yes it would be great if the combinations of cards were more varied. That’s purely the responsibility of the developers.
Though people often exaggerate because currently there are at least 10 to 12 decks that are almost equal (at least for ranks below top 100 legend).
I agree, it is boring. I see terran ctrl shaman, terran aggro shaman, zegr DK, zerg buff hunter, zerg discover hunter, weapon rogue, protoss rogue. Looks like only 4 classes in the game exist.
To be fair, I should mention terran warrior and zerg location warlock, they are playable, but I see them rarely. People don’t like to play a ctrl deck that is just OK when they have the ctrl deck that is the strongest.
I could understand clearing the board twice OR maybe even doing 14 damage to a a hero TWICE, but to do both in a single turn and have the possibility to do it twice in two turns just reeks of broken to me.
The only defense against such a game winning card like this is armor, which not all classes have easy access to. I can easily beat this gimmick with the warrior and to some extent the Starship shaman, but I have no answer with my Warlock or Paladin. It’s like a slightly more complex game of rock-paper-scissor.
Don’t even get me started on the Protos Druid or Mana Druid that reaches 9 mana by the time you are stuck at 4, which at this level is a huge gap. There is certainly a reason that about half to a third of my games are against Druids right now and it likely has to do with the letters O and P.
In my eyes, Hearthstone has devolved into a cheap game of ever increasing cheesy card gimmicks and one-upmanship that you need all the latest OP cards to survive.
It was manageable a few months back and playing old cards was a at least a viable option but now they seemed to have massively ramped up the power levels of the new cards/min-sets that the hill is getting too steep for casuals anymore.
Paladin is not relevant, warlock does extremely well against priests, rogues and dks. This match up is simply the rock to your scissor.
Game is in a horrible state no matter what though. Nerve breaking, uninteractive and most importantly far from fun.
Whatever class you play and face you just cheese or get cheesed to death. Either its warlock’s giants, shaman’s starships, zergs swarm, rogue’s no brain weapon, druid’s charge/hero power spam or in this case mage’s colossi. Horrible gameplay all around.
OTK Lynessa seems to work, but it’s not very fast anymore. But I believe it might be the best pala now.
At least it has the element of surprise, nobody expects to see any paladin at all.
