Blood Death Knight is finally playable

Wow, who would have thought? Blood DK is actually looking and feeling like a tier 1/2 deck after being a meme for three months. It has good ways to answer Shaman’s early scam turns and is no longer weighed down by the necessity to run Mutanus and Theotar, so can focus on its own game plan. I’ve been playing with Rivendare over Mograine but I’m not completely sold on it yet. Construct Quarter/Obliterate make it easy to complete the horsemen mini game but maybe it’s too convoluted and Mograine is just better.

In any case, I’m glad this class can finally win games of Hearthstone.

I’ve been doing well with Blood DK tonight, although I think the Frost DK deck is tier1, Unholy is high tier 2 and Blood is low tier 2.
I still think running Theotar and Mutanus is a must as you will lose to a lot of OTK decks and decks that have win condition cards. Also, I think the Reno version is better than the Renethal version as you basically need Reno to survive Frost DK and Shadow Priest. I run Mograine in both decks since you need it in the mirror match and every once in a while it’s useful in other matchups, definitely a swappable card though for Horsemen. The Horsemen package is objectively worse though as DK doesn’t really have a means of cheating it out early like other classes do.

Construct Quarter feels pretty bad in Blood DK to me, you are usually already behind by turn 3 so skipping a turn playing a location feels way too slow imo.

the location will get nerfed is bonke rbroken right now, it;s the same as mage location, too much value for that 3 mana. It needs to be enrfed to 2 chares only

Yes but turn 4 you have location ready to go. It also helps with cards like chillbaron 3 mana battlecry/deathrattle draw a card. Play it, draw card, location use on it and draw another and get a yeti with rush. Or use on the nagaling from achiol teacher after it dropped the spell on turn 5.

And dk has plenty of ways to catch up.

Remember how this board lost it’s mind over Control Warrior being viable for half an expansion, because all it did was “clear and stall”

i think the freezing bit is what got mage one nerfed not the skeleton summon
dk one doesnt disrupt the opponent at all

You can basically consider construct quarter to be a hyper powered evolve that triggers deathrattles and allows you to upcycle your low stat value minions into things that directly interact with the board that leave threatening bodies behind.

The card is definitely overtuned, and I’d be shocked if it wasn’t nerfed to 2 durability before the end of this expansion given how much of a boost the card was to every variety of death knight in every format.

Or they could slap unholy runes on it. Maybe unholy + frost if they want to keep it at this power level, it’s actually strong enough to justify a 2 different rune requirement, unlike sindragosa.

When was Blood DK unviable? It’s been a board based meta for ages now and blood DK clears and stalls nearly every single turn from 3 on.

Hmmmm…Warrior actually did stuff though. This deck literally does just clear and stall, and it’s horrible. Someone must like it though.

Yeah I don’t get it. I like control as much as the next guy, but not when it’s just “stall forever and let the -3 HP dot tick them to death.”
The only deck I can think of that gets close to that level of doing nothing was Dr. Boom Control Warrior, but at least they would use discovers and Mechs to go for big boards after a while. The biggest minion current Blood DK uses is what, a 7/7? That’s a one off?

Clear boards or not, Blood DK has simply not been winning many games since release.

Dr Boom Control Warrior was the first deck I hated. I literally thought stall until fatigue was Warriors only identity. Then in Saviours of Uldum they had an Enrage themed aggro deck and I thought it was such a good theme, and since then they became my favourite class. They have had many kinds of decks since then and the only one I couldn’t really vibe with was pirate Warrior, which a literal bot could pilot nearly as well as a pro.

Point being, there are a lot of different playstyles I’ve enjoyed over the years, but I can’t fathom why anyone would enjoy this crap. Hopefully the blood archetype gets something a little more interesting going forward.

Honestly I like Reno/ Highlander Blood DK as it feels most similar to one of my favourite decks ever, Reno Warlock in wild-- with the exception of building giant boards late game. My absolute favourite probably being Malygos Handlock, but there’s nothing even close to that atm. I can see why people dislike Blood DK but honestly the matchup doesn’t really bother me no matter what class I’m playing, I’ll take free wins any day. I want to see a more aggressive Blood DK deck as I think they have a lot of interesting cards like the hand buffs and that worm, but yeah they just aren’t viable yet. Maybe next expac.
