Blizzard allows 1 class ban in the Masters Tour Championship

How do you feel, about not be allowed the same in the game itself?

Here’s a write-up on the pros and cons of this in the tournament:

On the topic of Last Hero Standing is the aspect of “banning” one of the opponent’s classes; many tournaments that used Last Hero Standing required players to bring four classes as opposed to three for best-of-five matches, giving both players the opportunity to ban one of the classes the other player brought. The match would then proceed as normal, with each player not being able to use the class the other player selected to ban. This serves to decrease the frequency of a 3-0 sweep and allow players some defense against a certain deck their whole lineup may be weak to, and it also balances out situations in which one deck is considered the best deck in the metagame. The downside of this is that if a player is tearing up the first few rounds of the tournament with a deck no one seems prepared for and 3-0ing opponents with it, it might be banned in later rounds if word gets out, never getting the chance to see play again.

It would only work in the game if we were doing best of battles.

Also, keep in mind they are banning decks, not necessarily classes (although it’s 1 deck per class)

This creates problems in the real game if you are banning classes instead of decks because you are essentially banning multiple decks instead of just 1 class.

So if Class A has 5 decks in the meta that are good and Class B has 1, it doesn’t make sense to pick Class B to ban unless it’s your ONE counter deck. People would just pick the class that has the most decks for the most part unless they farm all those decks.

There’s a myriad of other issues, but that’s just a small example.

I’d be more in favor of having a side-board of like 5 cards that you can pick to swap in and out as you see fit based on the class you are facing. That way, “tech” cards actually do a lot more instead of being near meaningless like Vulpera for Starships currently.

that is what band manager e.t.c. was for

Yeah, but it’s a really bad version of the sideboard that really was for slower decks. You wouldn’t catch aggro running it.

A real sideboard outside of the original deck would benefit everything equally. Aggro can run silence if they think they are going against an anti-aggro taunt deck, for example.

I tend to think it’s dumb to allow it even in the tournament. It converts the game from Hearthtstone to a poker face of who will outsmart the other on banning decks.

Something tells me the motivation is closer to inability to balance the game than to making it fair.

aggro doesn’t deserve a sideboard in my opinion though
if aggro can tech against anti aggro then it has no weaknesses

Sideboard would be too complicated for the consumer base they want. Don’t think that will ever happen. The mind games and additional skill testing of correct sideboarding would be too difficult for this children’s card game.

I don’t get why that’s not true for the counters of the other types of deck.

Just ban priest/druid from ranked already

because aggro can go under ETC band manager in theory if the aggro counter techs are slow or if 4 mana to access the sideboard is too much time and mana

And did they already pay the 50 000 $ prize for the previous tournament winner? Because as far as I heard… they didn’t… and now the prize will be 500 000 $? How they are dare to organize another tournament when they didn’t pay for the previous one either?

Got a source for that?

i like my oppoentn not knowing my decklist and it would take too long to check my oppoennt decklists and play so many games in a row

and i know people would stall and choose which one of my decks to ban on the last second

I find it very dumb to be allowed even in the championship. In turns the game into who can fool the other at bluffing their ban and away from actual hearthstone.

Probably done because they can’t balance their game and not because it’s actually fair.

It’s obvious a single class ban of a player’s choosing would be healthy for the game. It essentially nullifies all of the angst and bad feeling about any sort of outlier or broken deck. They would not have to worry about the balance of the game as much since anything unbalanced can be nullified by the player’s at the player’s will and discretion. I honestly don’t understand anyone who is against this; maybe they just want to see the game be worse or something, idk

Why stop at single class ban? Why not ban 11 classes and ban cards too? We need easy mode punching bag mode. That would be healthy for the game. All the whiny sore losers can get their innkeeper level opponents. Oh wait that doesn’t work. If everyone if force into playing garbage in order to get a match the whiny bad players will still keep losing and would need a never ending spiral of increasing handicaps.

At this point we done so many BS for Far less that i would Just shut up and let they do.

I understand the consequences and How dumb It can get but then i look at the reasoning for the last changes lately and It looks like doing something really bad so we can do less in the future.
