Blizzard actually endorse negative behaviors via the "Thank you" emote. Replace it with "Sorry"

I always wonder why “thank you” is a emote.

Basically Blizzard endorse negative behaviors and BM your partner with that emote because tell me one situation where your opponent don’t use “thank you” to ether laugh at you after you conceded or laugh at a play you made that allow him to own you next turn, ill wait.

That’s right that emote is almost exclusively use for negative behaviors and nothing else, just to laugh and piss off your opponent. So yeah technically Blizzard endorse that kinda behavior. The old emote “Sorry” should replace “Thank you” because at least you can use “sorry” in a positive way (Sorry for the bad RNG, sorry for roping I was afk, etc) … And jerk will still have a BM emote to piss off people.

The “thank you” emote is lame imo and shouldn’t exist at all because you almost never use it in a positive and constructive way. Like NEVER*.

  • * Out of 20 opponents who use the “thank you emote” all of them use is for a negative behaviors (Emote after a “bad play” or emote during concede). I stop counting after 20 but we can all agree its less that 5% of the time it use positively.

How often do you use any emotes?

Every match for me. Greetings. Well played. And the occasional oops when either of us make a mistake.

Or wow when the rng is ridiculous.

If it weren’t thank you, it would be something else.

It’s sad, but lots of gamers are, well, angry, inconsiderate little people. Waaaaay back in the early days of HS, I feel like there were a stronger concentration of people who were enjoying the new game, and happy to lose a close or silly match. Now, I just squelch immediately, because it’s almost always either BM or a polite hello/GG, as Schyla said.

I use all of them actually … except Thank you.

  • Greeting : Say hello at the beginning of the match.
    .
  • WoW : Amazing play by the opponent or crazy RNG just occur
    .
  • Well play : Usually I say a well play before the final blow or before I concede if it was a nice match for both of us. If the opponent reply “well play” sometime I send a friend request and that’s how I manage to have lots of good HS friend actually.
    .
  • Oops : I was afk and want to say “sorry” but the emote no longer exist so I use oops. Also use it if a terrible rng just mess up totally the board for me or my opponent.
    .
  • Threaten : I just assemble my crazy stupid fun combo and I’m about to beat my opponent with my 3 copies of V7-TR-0N and I deserve a epic “quote” to assist my fun and stupid combo.
    .
  • Thank you : Almost never use it, beside saying “thank you” to react to my opponent saying “well play” to me, I dont see a single positive situation I can use it. It just use to piss off people most of the time.

How do you know they have bad intent with “Thank you” or any other emote? Have you considered the possibility that your reaction to it could be the problem?

You can’t control what other players do, you can only control how you react to it. So don’t let it bother you. It’s just a game. There is also always the option to squelch the opponent so you don’t have to see the emotes. I’ve done that myself if I’m feeling a little grumpy as we all do sometimes. Either way, don’t sweat it.

I agree 100% with you.

But my point is “thank you” emote is use exclusively for bad behavior. At least give us a emote that can be use in a positive way too. It just the “thank you” emote is basically a bad emote, they could simply change it to F.U. because “Thank you” is a polite way to say F.U.

“Thank you” is a very bad emote and shouldn’t be in the game because I see no positive way to use that emote. “Sorry” emote make more sens because you could actually use it for good and bad behavior, so the few moron who like to be jerk could use “sorry” like they use “thank you” to piss off people but the rest of us would actually have a good emote to use when we are AFK (roping) or to react to bad rng etc.

It’s just “Thank you” is ONLY use for bad behavior and should be change imo.

Like I say show me a situation someone say “thank you” and its a positive behavior … Might happen from time to time (never happen to me) but let just say 99%+ of the time is use as a bad behavior and if a emote is use almost exclusively to reinforce a bad behavior then why it’s in the game ? Specially we all know the “sorry emote” exist and could replace “Thank you”. With “Sorry” the jerk will have their emote to piss off people but at least it could be use in game for the right reason.

I never saw a single situation where “Thank you” wouldn’t be a insult to my opponent. Thank you for losing, thank you for not killing my auctionner, thank you for conceding … It’s never positive.

I was curious about OP specifically because people who never emote are unlikely to see “Thank You” in a positive way (since “good” uses of the “Thank You” emote would most likely be done in response to an opponent’s emote).

Sorry about your experiences there. Back in the day, a Priest healing an opponent at full health then receiving a Thank you, or a clever secret or crazy RNG followed by well-played and thank you, were common occurrences for me.

I’m still of the opinion that the BMers have taken over, more than that thank you is inherently toxic, but I could be wearing rose colored glasses here.

“Greetings, Traveller.”

“Heh, Greetings.”

“Thanks.”

If you see this as toxic, I think that’s on you.

What about this one after a hard fought game where you are about to conceed:

“Well played.”

“My thanks.”

How is that toxic?

You’re right. Basically it’s the very few time you can see it use in a good way. You just make me realize that sometime I do use it to reply to my opponent saying “well play” after a good move.

But overall its extremely rare it use positively because, like you say, you need to react to an opponent emote “well play” to use it positively, and it probably the only way it can be use for the good reason. In other world, it’s so rare that’s exactly why it’s a bad emote, because it almost exclusively use for bad behavior. The “Sorry” emote was way better to communicate during a match up (Sorry for this bad RNG, Sorry for roping I was afk, sorry ect etc.).

People would be surprise how often I send a friend request to an opponent who use emote during the match in a positive way, usually that mean the guy is a decent humain and not a jerk. I have lot of active friends from HS and I know none In real life. I get tons of 80g quest invite and it’s basically because some people use emote for the right reason and I invite them as a friend. Emote are important in this game imo.

I want to see “thank you” go away BECAUSE i use emote and that emote is useless except if you feel like acting like a jerk.

lol lurking the forums for years my impression is that most people who complain about emotes specifically hate people for saying thanks to well played

So you’re saying the only possible way to use the “thank you” emote correctly is often see as offensif by other people ? If it’s true, an other reason to replace “Thank you” by the old “Sorry” emote .

I love how even the LITERAL basic forms of communication still trigger people apparently. I think you need a little thicker skin my guy.

I’ve actually seen “Thank you” in a lot of logical scenarios - like when you devolve your opponent’s board and they get better stuff than they had … then they say “Thank you” normally

Trigger ? I actually use the emote and that’s why I say it’s a bad emote. It’s bad because it serve almost no other purpose other than reinforcing a bad behavior which is bad for the purpose of the emote system.

“Sorry” emote would actually offer the option to act like a jerk just like the “thank you” emote but with the option to use it for good behavior and to communicate with your opponent in a constructive way … you know the real reason why emote exist.

So explain to me how this position make me a “crying baby” with no thick skin that trigger easily ? It doesn’t, you must be the kinda guy to use “thank you” to reinforce your bad behavior … (Like making pointless trolling comment on the forum)

When I get a quest that says “play 20 pirates” or something similar, I que into casual with a deck designed not to win, but to complete the quest. I can’t tell you how many times people have figured out “oh, this dude is only playing card draw, he isn’t hitting my face, and he’s playing this 1 specific quest mechanic- I’m going to stall the game in an attempt to be helpful”. During this time I really enjoy the “thank you” emote.

I use the greeting one at the start of every game, the well played at the end, and on the rare occasion I forget to hit end of turn and go to rope I hit sorry. Pretty much that’s it.

Glad to know there are friendly players still out there.

Wrong. If I make a sick play and opponent responds with a well played I respond with thank you.

Now stop whining
