[bg] this is why we should always rush level up

Just found this link on youtube, basically the player skipped the first 8 turns to level up to tier-6. He survived and then one-shot all other opponents to get 1st place.

Very interesting strategy and it shows the importance of getting to late game fast with the current meta. With almagram gone, there is almost no way to kill an opponent early and skipping both early and mid-game looks less risky than before.

Bull***t. Even with his lucky rolls.

He faced ghost 2 times. If he would be matched against normal board for the first time, he would get to t6 with what? 4 HP maybe? And right after he got to t6 he got matched against ghost again…

Basically highroll that happens once in a long time to even consider possible strategy. Let alone viable.

Not to mention that ghost had 0 board…

Just because someone has made a video when getting lucky doesnt make it a good idea. There are tons of videos on Youtube with people doing crazy stuff and not getting hurt, that doesnt mean what they we’re doing would be a good idea.

Just try it 10 times in a row and see how many times it will work for you, you need at least a 50% winrate for it to be remotely viable.

it’s at 3k mmr (remember that we start at 4k so 3k mmr is like rank 50 in ranked if we could derank), anything works

Another proof for this “rush tavern” strategy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OT-vbIVuh0

This time it is 2 turns slower than the first video, but at much higher MMR (5,500) and the player did buy minions along the way.

current game: i’m at a low mmr (~7k) and it doesn’t work, that guy went to t6 when we were all t2-t3, you just can’t survive an aggressive meta (https://ibb.co/HXHc52Q it’s just safer/better to follow the curve)

I watch rdu, dudes around 9-10k mmr. Always power lvl to 5 or 6 unnecessarily and gets punished hard ending top 7 or 8 when could’ve survived. It’s not correct unless you’re going murlocs relatively healthy or have a triple already at t4 and wants a 6.

I can understand RDU sometimes, you level for a chance to fight or get punished and die. But not just blind leveling

I’m pretty much done with BGs now - at least not serious about them. It’s WAY too much RNG, the hero choices, the minion choices and the attacks are completely random. They could at least fix the attacks so the minions actually make decisions instead of just randomly hitting anything (oh there’s a 12/1 and a 1/3, let’s hit the 1/3 with my 1/1!) This is why Soul Juggler(s) can pretty much carry a board, as they magically survive until the very last demon dies in most cases (unless Zapp). Another RNG fest is the triple reward. If you’re murloc, your level 6 pick needs to be the adapt minion. If you get it, you’ve likely won, if you don’t you’ve wasted a triple.

My rank was around 6.5k, but I now just mess around, and I think I’m probably under 4k. Just getting bored of it now though.

Shouldn’t necessarily judge player by rating. Doing what he does, he seems like he’s testing out random stuff. I sometime even just quit when I know I got a super crap start rather than fighting to mitigate my rating losses. I was around 8300, but down in lower 7k now.

He seems to just lvl whether it makes sense or not like going to 5 playing mechs when not knowing what he wants to go t5 for or going to 4 early with demons. Sometimes going to 6 when nothing there is really that good late game when could’ve just bought buffs to get stronger and probably not die. Just my one gripe with him but I like watching him otherwise.

the only megasaur i got the other day when playing murlocs (only murloc player in the lobby) gave me no poisonous or divine shield :frowning:
as you said, there’s too much bs rng

same, this mode can be so broken sometimes and they just don’t want to fix it

3k MMR wonder how he got there? If you guessed he tried this strategy until the star aligned and he was able to make this video then you are probably correct. My guess is that the ghost is a 2nd account he was boxing so that it was only 7 players so he had the chance to match up against a no board ghost.

LOL! Someone (Bartendo of course) tried this strategy in my Lobby last night. I faced him when he was Tier 5, and I knocked him down to 4 health. I saw he immediately tiered up to 6 … and was immediately eliminated.

Long Story Short: Ridiculous strategy that works maybe 1 in 5 times…

You have to keep playing, everyone has a slump now and then. The rating of the top players go up and down 1k points or more.
Rushing levels is pointless imo,you are not even guaranteed to get a good high tier drop or even any drop from the level you just got. The only time to be greedy i think is with tripples, then you can SOMETIMES postpone the tripple to get a guaranteed higher tier. I think this is specifically worth it when you can get a tier 6 over a tier 5 or a tier 5 over a tier 4. Getting a tier 4 over a tier 3 i am not sure is worth risking postponing your tripple since there is quiet a few decent 3,s and 4,s can miss pretty badly.

The other bad piece of design is that some levels are practically useless for some tribes. If you’re murloc, you might as well stay under level 4 for most of the game, and only level up when you get a tripple. Mechs have nothing useful at level 5 now (I don’t consider Junkbot a good card now). Your level 6 reward defines whether you are going to win or lose, generally. It’s totally RNG. It’s ok for fun to pass the time, but you’re never going to really become an expert, any more than you can become an expert at flipping a coin
