Best way to progress for a F2P player?

I created my account back in 2015, but I only played about 100 games before uninstalling the game. I was playing another game and did not have the time to invest in this one. I came back a couple of months ago to find the game had changed, but not as much as many believe. Sure, there’s different cards, but the same situation exists as it did in 2015. New players with empty pockets have a hard time getting the best cards to level the playing field. The only real difference is that same disadvantage is even more pronounced than it was back then.

I could complain about how the matchmaker puts us up against veteran players with superior cards, but the purpose of my post is to seek advice on getting better cards more quickly. Since I’ve returned to the game. I haven’t gotten more than a handful of cards I can transform into to dust. Without dust I can’t create the cards I need. I did not have that problem back in 2015. What gives?? Should I sacrifice the few gold cards and legendaries I don’t use to get a little bit of dust? It doesn’t seem worth it.

I don’t mind losing. It’s the best way to learn. But I fall further behind in my card inventory with each passing day. Is this the state of the game or am I missing something? Any advice for obtaining better cards without opening my wallet would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise I will be uninstalling the game, but this time I will likely not return. Again… I don’t mind the grind, but my lack of real progress is hindering my enjoyment of an otherwise great game.

Thanks in advance for anyone willing to help.

I’m not sure what you can do, besides doing weekly and daily quests to get gold and then buy card packs. If you want a specific card you would want to buy (with gold) packs from that set.

I know you said you weren’t interested in spending real money, but if you change your mind a Tavern Pass is likely the best use of your money.

Do your dailies and weeklies and don’t forget to do Tavern Brawl each week for your free Standard pack.

Open up to 10 packs of each expansion (in Standard) to get a guaranteed Legendary.

You won’t have much duplicates at the start to craft cards you want because duplicate protection exists - you will get new cards at each rarity as long as you don’t own all of the cards for a rarity per set. Once you do, then you’ll start accumulating duplicates you can disenchant for dust.

Save the rest of your gold now for when the expansion launches next month, because there will likely be catch-up packs as well you can buy for gold. These are huge for growing collections as they can contain up to 50 cards per pack instead of the usual 5.

Overall, patience is key when building your collection, especially as a F2P.
