I wonder if Deepwater Evoker has any potential for Big Spell or perhaps Ping Mage?
the Multicaster probably works in Quest.

It’s hard to tell honestly. The synergy is there. The 5 mana spell is theoretically nice. Curving the armor guy into the new spell isn’t bad. The Parrot has a useful target…
But is any of this good enough? Firebrand and some cheap spells is probably enough to handle early boards, and now you’ve got some more sustain, so maybe you can put up a fight with Hunter, Taunt Druid, and Deathrattle DH, and you’re definitely pretty good against Paladin. But do you lay on enough pressure vs Solitaire? The new spell is useless against opponents who play no minions to target, and the parrot copying it is good against opponents struggling to fight you for board but I’m not sure it swings boards harder than other lategame decks could.
I think in terms of meta performance it will come down to how good a board-focused mage deck does against other board decks, as this is delivering the top-end for such a deck. Or perhaps this fleshes out a Hero Power mage? Not sure I see the fit in HP mage.
I had the same concern. Firebrand is so meh in this meta where the minions have insane stats fairly early.
After seeing the five mana spell I can see where the Parrot might work some times, but honestly I think Mage will be dead way before turn eight in this meta.
On the first few turns it tends to clean up pretty nicely, I’ve felt. 4 damage that can split up is pretty nice on top of 2-3 for brain freeze or first Flame.
yeah it works ok if the cards are three health or so.
I don’t think any of it is good enough.
A few years ago these cards would have been insane though.
Like i said though: I have been wrong many times.
I guess we will see.
So far the mage cards reveal seem to be preparing for the NEXT mage thing. The current pool of big mage spells (big being 5 mana or more) is rather limited
Apexis
RSW
Flamestrike
Mask
Deep Freeze
Grande Finale
And 3 of those are rotating next year.
But if I have to build a deck using the cards right now (during miniset), here’s one meme idea
-run only big spells: mask and deep freeze preferred, but maybe RSW and flamestrike
-tutor them with evoker to get 5-7 armor (getting RSW allows fro smooth turn 4 and turn 5 so worth the -2 armor)
-turn 7 clumsy courier to cast hopefully a mask or deep freeze
-turn 8 parrot which, if my reading of the text is correct, it casts that again
Problem here is that this is more of a finisher and not a win con. The rest of your deck (read: minions) has to do a lot of heavy lifting to get you close to kill.
That’s what they are always doing with Mage, and they have for years now.
Mage is forever being made over.
Meanwhile; other classes get class cards that synergize beautifully with existing decks.
One surprise for me was the neutral draw card. I think it totally works in Quest mage if there is space for it.
They do it for basically every class. The one class that (for now) doesn’t get something totally different this time appears to be warrior, and even then maybe their weapon isn’t the best fit (pirate quest overrides that weapon). The norm is that each expansion (and now minisets too I guess) introduces a few cards that don’t really fit into existing decks. Over time they add up and what started as a meme may (may) become a competitive deck.
And it’s not like mage didn’t get something that synergizes with existing decks. Arcane overflow is an alternative apexis blast. Instead of hitting face and generating a threat it’s better at removing single big minions (though most things before turn 5 will probably generate you something). It being arcane school makes it easier to fit into quest mage.
One consideration is that without external modifiers (e.g buffs) overflow one shots ogremancer. They get a 2/2, but you get a 1/1 so it’s not totally loss, and being able to shut down that ogremancer immediately has value.
Giga bait.
What people should be looking foward is to the fact that other mage archtypes did reach the critical draw mass with multicaster.
No more necessity to play Crazy tutors that require buildarounds.
But what i laugh most is people talking about a supposed ping support for mini set during the “buffs”.
" Because I promised Pica something nice"

Hey, it works - you’ll just have to believe in the heart of the cards, Mallen.
And Regis’ positive attitude is - catching?
Multicaster might be good for Quest Mage in providing a solid body that withstands a spell or two - for instance, when a pesky Quest Hunter (ahem) doesn’t play minions at all.
I would have loved to see something for Ping Mage. I ought to have known better.
Hopefully multicaster didn’t end getting a direct nerf when Quest mage breaks due to it(It Will).
That way we could leverage other mage decks too atleast actual Quest mage level in performance.
So you think Deepwater Evoker might see play in Ping Mage? I foresee a new Questline Mage variant that includes minions.
nah. what would you get for Wildfire, for example?
Battlecry is a one shot effect and running two wildfires, the card simply isn’t a reliable enough effect to matter imho. I mean 1 armor and I guess you get the minion?
I’m not a great deck builder and could be very wrong, but I don’t think it fits.
I was being sarcastic when I asked that question:)
No. It’s Just questline with the already know cards and multicaster instead of wandthief.
Better than draw is more draw.
I feeling Quest mage gonna have another popularity peak when the mini set arrives and that Will end in yet another nerf.
But If devs use It with actual inteligence they gonna nerf whatever other card from that deck except multicaster.
That way you gonna introduce another way to build mage decks with minions and It will be better than the builds based on tutoring specific spells we have nowadays.
I not a fan of strong draw but since people want random generation out of the game so badly i take It without question.
I think this game is gonna continue to be an unbalanced piece of garbage that panders to anything but Mage or Priest. As usual.
They had the opportunity to make Ping mage on par with Quest and that way split the population.
Instead; they are going to buff Quest mage ( which everyone already hates)
which probably ensures it to be nerfed and crippled once again.
The design team never changes. They could not possibly care less about balance or viability.
This game is a mess and all of it can be laid at the feet of Team 5.
(Sorry Pica, I really tried.)
