I just noticed that Teron Gorefiend’s power counts as a kill for Ragnaros. That’s gotta be unintentional, right?
Nnnnnnnope. Any death of any enemy minion for any reason.
Yeah if you had a battlecry get triggered during combat and it targeted one of your own team that would destroy one of your own minions to do something… that too counts towards Ragnaros’ kill count.
One of my favorite strategies while Rag is in the lobby, during the first 2 turns if I face them, I hold off on even playing a minion at all. Sure I take 2 dmg to the face but that might have happened anyway. But it is really enjoyable knowing Im denying them the few kills they need to have started to gather that early. lol.
There is an expression, ‘cutting off your nose to spite your face’. Whatever works for you man. Playing poorly on purpose to pointedly provoke a player is petty and petulant.
I am genunily curious as to how this is a petty move? Taking minor damage that early just to deny maybe one or two kills is no big deal. Is it optimal? No not really. But overall harmless.
Now what would be an actual petty move would be selling your board in the later turns before facing rag who hasn’t unlocked their passive. That is a severely terrible move that has no upsides for you at all.
It reflects a really small mindset, essentially hurting your own play to attempt somehow to deny your opponent a negligible edge. That’s petty. I also like alliteration so there’s that.
You claim “negligible edge” but there have been PLENTY of BG’s I’ve played that were decided by negligible edges. Games where I’ve lost by EXACT damage. Games I’ve won because I played ONE extra minion, just because “oh what the hell, I’m dead anyway” but the enemy targets THAT throwaway random body instead of the true threat.
I agree it’s unconventional. Counter-intuitive, even. And, if the payoff doesn’t pay off, then you’ve essentially hurt yourself all the more. However, it’s far from petty as a general concept. Sometimes it’s not about winning the most. Sometimes it’s about losing the least.
You don’t have to be faster than the bear. You just have to be faster than the slowest person long enough for the bear to catch them instead of you.
Many many many times Ive played as Ragnaros and lost the whole match before I could unlock my hero power… So I know firsthand how important each and every kill is at the start of the game. I won’t pick a pirate or undead if Im facing Ragnaros on turn 1. I might buy them but I wont play them. and there was a chance I would take 2 dmg on turn 1 no matter what I picked. So while its overall effect might not edge me closer to winning the entire match with all the lobby, it has in a lot of games been a successful strategy in getting ragnaros eliminated before they even can get their power activated at all. Many times I will see them in the greyed out bottom of the list and see they were shy of their power by 1 or 3 kills. So i get to smile knowing I had a hand in actively denying them those precious kills they needed.
i literally sold my minion vs a rag once to upgrade the tavern, they ended up losing with the kill count at 24/25
Whenever I’m Teron playing against Rag, and I don’t have a Deathrattle or Reborn yet, I flip a coin to decide whether I’ll give him a free kill. Either way, I emote excessively.
This^ would be an example of being petty lol. And its the best version of it, hilarious. lol
