Battlegrounds: Murlocs still OP

The nerfs did absolutely nothing to curb how op they are. Summon from hand is problematic and needs to be removed from the mode entirely.

Let’s see what the spell slinging saloon has to offer!
Minions are being removed and added, so that will shake things up.
Phalanx is still problematic as far as I can tell. Maybe Goldrinn too? I’ll wait for the next meta evaluation I guess.
Personally I hate beasts and wish they would rework the whole tribe but there’s nothing I can do if that’s what is offered so sometimes I have to use them, despite 0 fun.
Actually, I like to buy beast comp cards and hold them so others have less chance getting them. That part is fun when you’re holding 2 slamma, or goldrinn and you face an opponent that is lacking that one piece, and you know they are just rolling for it.

What don’t you like about murlocs other than bassgill? Is it also the tier 3 one ?

I don’t quite agree that murlocs are as OP. Yes still scam but less of it, and although pirates still suck I think there’s actually a decent amount of parity now. The issue with murlocs is less the handbuff (all the tribes can scale massively from hand or not) it’s the venomous that is the huge advantage because your 1244/892 quilboar will still die to a murloc with venom.

The problem is that you have to be able to beat more than seven board slots in the current meta, and not every tribe is equipped to play that game.

The from hand, reborn, and deathrattles are so rampant as to make those tribes superior in end game.

With murlocs, you can summon stats and venom and keep it rolling out, having buffed your board minions as well.

The nerf corrected leeroy and beast tomfoolery, but murlocs are still able to compete very well in the end game.

There needs to be a minion that can dispel deathrattles like the one that can dispel taunt/reborn.

They could easily add Deathwarden as a minion. It already exists. Nice suggestion.

Ty. It’s been bothering me for a while that there’s no deathrattle counter. There’s a counter for everything else.

If it counters beasts, then count me in!

I hear people say they do this and I wonder how anyone has the spare gold that enables this as a strategy.

ok how about now, is murlocs still OP

It’s not always viable, and is usually a game to game decision. I certainly would not advise it early to mid game.
I would say I’m more likely to do it if beasts are in the lobby and I want my opponents rolling uselessly for their key pieces.
Additionally, I’ll only do it if I have a Tethys triple or a triple Brann that can generate me extra income.
For example, if I roll first on 5 and see a slamma immediately ,and I don’t already have a raptor, I’d never take the slamma just to hold. Not yet.
First off, buying slamma before having key beasts is a huge no no, and secondly, I’m not in a position to waste 3 gold. Not yet.
If I’m cycling with the right pieces though, and can’t spend my gold, then I’m going to buy those pieces to infuriate the beasts players because I can .

Yeah the one that gains venom when attacked is really strong if buffed up a lot.

I’m finding murlocs and dragons really good right now, although elementals are way better than they were during the last season. I do feel like there is a pretty big shift in terms of relative tribe strength, although I think pirates are still pretty much the worst because they are so vulnerable to scam and cleave.
I did have one win with pirates because of the insane amount of APM you can do if you get all of the various gold spells. I think one turn I spent close to 200 gold. Had a 100 second timer that round which helped but still… that was fun.

How do you figure?

I think the spells can be really interesting and totally throw a wrench in the game.

You can scale elementals like crazy now, the taunt minion that gains stats whenever another elemental does; the elemental/dragon hybrid; the elemental that buffs tavern elementals whenever you cast a spell; plus good old barnstormer.
If you get decent luck with your tavern spell pool you can create massive elementals pretty quickly.
Last season barnstormer was really your only option, and until the end of the season when they shifted it to a lower tier and buffed rock rock elementals were really pretty bad. My experience anyway, around the 7500-8000 MMR lobbies. It may have been radically different at higher MMRs.

Elementals are basically only viable in a lobby that does not include murlocs because they do not have tools to stop venom.

Now the best use of them is to buff the shop and eat them with demons.

I think they will really miss Nomi.

I think the last lobby I won with elementals I was able to divine shield everything pretty easily, but ya murlocs weren’t in that one. Dunno about Nomi, from what I saw in various guides last season (yes I try to do my homework) Nomi was considered too slow, and seriously the new azerite elemental is pretty amazing.
Passive buffs from spells means you don’t have to cycle elementals on your board every turn to scale.
Will be curious to see where comps land, I will say I’m having a ton of fun right now, and other than pirates everything else seems to have a decent shot. I really wish they’d do something about murloc scam - the new one that gains venom when attacked I think is actually great design - more of that and less of the from hand murghoul via deathrattle summon.

Rock Rock giving 2 of attack or health in a world where blood gems are double digits is just not powerful enough.

I just do not see them being that strong endgame.

I still despise how beasts work now. Hate the summon from hand mechanic in BG.

Edit: As I type this I am in a lobby playing elementals. Go figure.

Not sure I am fast enough to keep up, though.

Edit 2: Quillboars got me.

Rock rock isn’t really very good even now. It goes back to the issue of having to spam cycle elementals to gain buffs. I just had a run where I actually did an elemental/naga board taking advantage of both naga spellcrafts and tavern spells and that was fun.
