Just finished in a 3-way tie for 3rd instead of being one of the top 3 because I never hit Goldrinn. I had a big Hydra and a golden Macaw but never saw Baron or Goldrinn despite tripling twice on tier 5 and leveling to tier 6 and having a couple turns to hit one naturally. I gained MMR and I am back above 6,500 but it should have been better.
Far from new. I remember when a decision I made, like choosing a card over another in an Arena draft for example, had a greater impact on the outcome of a game than the design/functionality of the game itself.
I just changed my tag in the past month or so. Downloaded Hearthstone right before the League of Explorers expansion and hit Legend a few times during the Kobolds & Catacombs meta.
Arena and Limited card game formats in general are more appealing to me but Arena has been a clown fiesta for years.
And I understand the game enough to fare better than where I’m at. I have climbed back up close to 6,600 and my last game was a 1st place with Silas. I hit an early Lightfang and then tripled it a couple turns later and got a poison Amalgadon with a strong menagerie composition already in place. Found a Module for it the next turn and then found Eliza after going to tier 6 and I just scaled and smacked everyone for 25 to 30 and won before the game really had a chance to get started. No skill involved…just a fundamental understanding of the minions. The rest was pure luck.
I’m holding around 6,700 MMR now but I just got another reminder of how ridiculous the game is. Was playing as Jandice and ran into high roll Patches at level 3 and took 23 damage and lost the next turn. Never had a chance to get started.
Fix the game.
EDIT: Another Jandice game where I finished in a tie for 5th with four other players because I ran into another high roller who smacked me for 20+ when I was on 18 health.
As Jandice when you’re trying to triple a token (that I didn’t find on turn 1 in either game) you’re not going to be max strength. The game shouldn’t be so punishing to the point where playing a hero the way it should be played isn’t viable because if you get a bad matchup in the mid game you’re just done. That happens too often this meta. It’s poor game design and it’s unfortunate you and so many others can’t understand that.
This is exactly why you are complaining that the game is all luck when you don’t get a token or what not… because you’re doing it wrong.
At your ranking you have to take what you get and make the best you can with it until you get a core piece. It’s imperative that your board is as big as possible to stop the chip damage.
You’ve tunneled onto an ideal and missed the forest for the trees. I have won games as jandice where the best I could do was get a tiny menagerie and give it sips of tea until I could find better parts.
To you. It happens to you too often. Every turn has to make your board stronger or you will die.
It’s brilliantly creative and fun and rewards thinking and solving puzzles to eek out the best board from piles of crap half the time.
But hey, come here to tell us about your misplays while blaming the game again soon! If you don’t do anything differently, I am pretty sure you will get the same results.
You’re at a point where you have to play everything for fourth or better and then ride your natural high rolls.
There’s no space when everyone is average or better to be greedy looking for tokens early. It’s a surefire plan to get an early exit, and you’ve confirmed this right here in this thread.
You are hard stuck because you aren’t playing right, not because the game is broken.
Is 700 MMR gained in the past month or so when I only play a few games a day on average considered hard stuck? Probably not.
What I described with Jandice and other strong heroes happens all too often. I see it happen to the streamers I watch. Some heroes need to be played on more of a knife’s edge otherwise you’re doing it wrong. Suggesting she should be played like a tempo hero is indicative of flaws in the game design and meta and it needs to be fixed.
I got a token on turn 2 in both games. That’s the whole point. I had the resources to play how Jandice was designed to be played and the general state of the game prevented that from playing out. I took some chip damage and failed to dodge the high roller so I lose. AWESOME GAME DESIGN.
Was it beasts? Because if that’s what you did I know why you lost.
We have different expectations I guess. I would say you took catastrophic damage and continued to be behind suggesting you didn’t adequately move your board forward while making essentially pointless triples too slow to matter in the end.
I mean, I think that strat is fail past meme jank rank, but idk.
It’s how everyone I watch plays the hero and in the late game the hero power is used to recycle menagerie buffs with Brann or Murloc discovery and buffs or maybe Amalgadon adaptations. Regardless of how it’s used late it’s always used for triple generation early. The question of greed or no greed is when you choose to play the token triples. It’s better to greed because the minions on tiers 3 and 4 generally don’t allow for tempo AND scaling outside of Quillboars. So again the problem is in the game design and that without luck you don’t get to the late game.
EDIT: Just finished last after finishing 2,3,4,2 in my previous four games. Never had a chance.
