Battleground Rating for "pick from 2 heroes" people

Many of the streamers (even ones I thought quit HS) have been streaming battlegrounds a lot lately. And they are all choosing from 3 heroes and have very high ratings. But most of them also claim that only a handful of the heroes are good. Many times, they only get one “playable” hero.

For them, 7000, 8000, or even up to 10000 is a good rating. But I wonder what their ratings would be if they had not obtained the preorder perk and ended up playing a garbage hero a lot more often?

I didn’t buy the pre-order, so I’ve been choosing from 2 possibles every time. And I end up having to take one of two “unplayable” (according to the streamers) heroes fairly often.

Best I’ve managed is 5400 rating so far. I wonder how much extra rating having a 33% chance at a much better hero every game is worth? I’m sure it’s non-zero, but I wonder if it’s just a trivial amount compared to just playing better?

Anyone on here who didn’t buy the pre-order have a great rating? Or is that third hero worth thousands of rating points?

It gives a good benefit for certain. I’m at 6k rating and haven’t played for the past week (+ maybe half a week). Not saying 6k is great but that is what I am at with pick 2 and I usually top-4 so I don’t suffer many - point games

There is a difference but I don’t think its that big of a difference. The 3rd hero is worth less then 1k rating points for sure. Maybe somewhere around 500 once all ratings have settled and become accurate.

On my f2p I am 300 points behind my p2p (both above 6k) but its also a different region which makes it hard to compare.

I don’t think the rating means all that much right now, it’s basically a measurement of how often you’ve played than anything else; since it’s not that terribly hard to place in the top 4 (assuming you go with the mindset of placing top 4 as opposed to trying to win)

I get to pick from 3 and am hovering around 5000 so…

In an even playing field (all players roughly the same amount of skill, which should be the case with the MMR system) and assuming the player properly knows which Hero’s better, a better Hero = an equal or better position than you would’ve reached with another Hero in that very same game (same card pools and such).

So let’s see. A 33% chance for an equal or higher position, and a 12.5% chance for each position. Uh… I don’t know what calculations to make to decide the new chance for each position, but if you do that and use this to calculate the average MMR gain/loss, subtract from this amount the average MMR gain/loss when you have a 12.5% chance for each position, and multiply the resulting number by the amount of games you’ve played, you’d know what difference it would’ve made. This is on AVERAGE though and can wildly fluctuate between players: the difference could very well be something crazy like 0 or 5000.

not the subject but do we know what/if there will be rewards for this mode?

I only can pick from 2 heros and my MMR is 8706

3 is actually 50% more choice than 2.

I call BG, “The blessed and the cursed” mode.

As one of the cursed, who devolves 5 Murlocs into 4 Murlocs and a taunt, bottom decks N’Zoth against control constantly, and literally every single Reno opponent on Ranked had Reno on curve last month, having a 3rd Hero would be an immense boost.

But if you are part of the blessed you could have a single Hero option and probably still end up with better choices than a 2fer.

50% more choice, but a 33% chance it’s the prefered choice (1 out of 3).

best mmr is 6237 whit 2 hero pick…and agree very hard play when 2 fail hero offered + bad draw come too yday 3x in a row failed by this 8th place

I’m at 5800 with 2 heroes. I’m getting more experienced but I can tell that I make a lot of blatant mistakes - selling before buying, wrong buffing, wrong positioning etc. And I’m sure that I make a ton more mistakes that I’m not even aware about yet.

Sometimes I screw up and come last with a good hero and a pretty decent draft. So with better play and more consistent top 4s I can definitely get a lot higher on just 2 heroes.

They’re still better than almost everyone even with the garbage heroes.

People vastly overstate the importance of hero choice in the middle 80% of hero strength.

I think all things considered it matters a little, but my son plays (for instance) at around 4400 and you could give him a pick of all 24 heroes and he’s still not going to compete at my rating, but it might boost him a bit. I know because I watch him play, and while he’s great for his age, he makes a ton of mistakes that people 6k+ don’t make (let alone 7k-10k).

If you have a decent knowledge of the heroes, it shouldn’t matter to much.

My pick 2 is a few hundred points lower than my pick 3, but I think it’s mostly because I’m occasionally forced to pick heroes I’m not familiar with. Like if I get two heroes I don’t play much like Galliwix and Ragnaros, I probably won’t do great because I don’t know their curves as well as the “meta” heroes for sure, or even some subpar heroes like LK who I feel like I can pilot fine even though he’s not as strong as the “meta” heroes.

In the app it implies it is only a bonus up until release. So either everyone gets 2 or everyone gets 3 post launch.

no pre order yet. i just broke 4k. my rating tanked to 3100 the first couples of weeks because i was still learning + my laptop was too slow so i was only getting like 20 seconds to make decisions in the midgame - having no idea i was supposed to have like 90 sec. since i started playing on my phone i’m doing much better. i just won 3 in a row for the first time and have had 5 straight games of top 4+
